Well I finally got the dreaded leaking oil and coil misfire (300 miles away from my garage no less). The nice thing is that the light has gone out and its back to normal but I'm planning on doing the maintenance when I get back home in 4 weeks. Searching the Ford parts catalog there are a pair of gaskets for the 2003 V6, one with an early build date and the other with a later build date. I'm in the early dates but I have a suspicion that the later part has less problems. What do ya'll recommend and is the difference in the cover its self so I'd be better to replace it as well? I love my LS and I do plan on keeping it till it blows up and even then I might hot rod it so I don't want to cheap out and do the minimum, I want to do the solid fix.

Thanks,

While you are in there you may want to do the PCV valve hose as well. I believe that is what is leaking oil on my 04 v6. Depending on miles it would not hurt to replace plugs and perhaps coils too since you will have the intake off already. Be sure to take pictures for me since I will be doing this same work this summer. :)

pcv valve hose would not leak oil u might want to check that out

When I said "leak oil" I did not mean in the "wet spot under the car" kind of way. Just the "hey I smell burning oil" and "my car studders when it's cold outside" kind of way. I poped the hood and saw some small tuffs of smoke coming from the firewall side of the engine under the intake manifold.... what would your guess be on that one? VCG failure on the gen2 v6 is almost unheard of.

Sorry for the thread jack....
