It seems like I read somewhere the Ford did a reflash of the 2003 V8 computer to help with a tranny problem. If this is true, how can I tell if my LS received this update?

Also, I have been having some strange tranny problems with the car like a shudder when going into 5th, and an occasional slow shift into 4ht (but not always). My question is this, I am assuming that I first need to try a reset by unplugging the negative on the battery for 10min. and pumping the brakes. Any danger or issues arise from doing this and anything special need to be done after doing this.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dealer read to see if you have the current transmission flash.

Some times like on mine there is a sticker under the hood with date and update # for the main computer update.

When you disconnect battery you have to reset the electric e brake and the climate control. All can be found in your owners manual, if you don't have owners manual you can down load from TECH ARTICLES next to SEARCH at the top of the page.

You should disconnect for about 1/2 hour.

Will the dealer check this for free or s this one of those times they like to charge $100 for a diagnostic or comp. read?

Thanks again

Depends on your relationship, if you are out of warranty and how much business you have given them, they can go either way.

I am out of warranty and my local dealer just closed. Oh well, never hurts to take it somewhere and ask.
