Hey everybody, new to this forum. Was referred by one of your members. My father currently has an '01 LS V8, about 75K, Sport Pkg, chrome wheels, bought it over the summer. We love the car but within a month, we began having problems.

Just wondering for those of you that do not service your vehicle yourself, where do you get your major service/issues fixed? I'm in SoCal and was trying to see if people usually went to the dealer or had a specialist or something because our current mechanic doesn't have much experience with these cars.

I'll just let you know of the situation.. we bought the car and after a month, got kind of suckered into a tranny rebuild. Then around sometime in September or October, the car started having a really rough idle and we got a CEL and misfire in cylinder #4. First took to our mechanic, we mentioned changing coils, and he kept refuting that it was the coils. Took it to the Ford dealer, and they also said they didn't think it was coils. They thought it was one of the injectors, but said it didn't fix the problem. They then had no where to go from there, and called Ford engineers hotline for help. The dealer was told to change the cat converter which was covered under warranty, but didn't solve the problem. They then wanted to do a leak down test on the cylinders. We backed off at that point and took it back to our mechanic. Hes slowly working on it, but I think hes having trouble since he has no experience. Anybody think it could be PCM..? Or is it something mechanical? Apparently our mechanic remachined the heads, redid the valve seals and possibly some work on the valve stems. Major stuff.

If we can't find a specialist or keep running into problems, we're going to have to end up giving it away, which is sad because I really love that car.

I know that was really long and in-depth, but any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Simply put, I'm trying to either find a specialist or if anybody knows of a good dealer, or even if someone in SoCal is willing to help us out with this whole situation. Thanx in advance guys.

Rough idle is usually a bad coil due to a leaking valve cover. Pull the coils and plugs and look for oil in the wells. If there's oil in them, time for new gaskets and plugs while you're in there.

Welcome aboard.

Long Beach LM, great dealership, always gives me good deals.

HyeLife..

Have you always had your LS serviced there? Anything else besides good deals? Mostly wondering about the mechanics there.. if you happen to know one personally or their experience on LS's. Hope I'm not asking too much.. most likely will give them a call anyway.
My dad was actually considering that dealer for some reason, forgot why, but thanks. Encouraged me a little more to go out there.

Lincoln Ls 2000 V8 Misfire # 4 + "Clunk Noise"

Car is great, went to frisco & back now the car has a really rough idle. I scanned the car & it told me there was a misfire On #4 I pulled the plug & replaced the coil. still has misfire on #4 & Now says misc. misfires & bank 2 lean.
would it have anything to do with the idle control valve?

I changed the oil & added lucas oil stabalizer & fuel treatment to the system to help out if there was anything stuck or clogged (Clunking noise)

I Also noticed that my Air Bag symbol is always on & the car does not want to go into 1st without feeling like its in park.

Chanceone, start your own thread. The OP here asked questions about his car, and you can do the same in another thread.

To the OP, its very likely the coils. What you describe is a common problem with early LS models, and has been discussed literally hundreds of times on this board. The valve cover gaskets on the early cars were not up to snuff, and they leaked oil. That leaked oil collected in the coil mounts and damaged the coils, which in turn prevents the spark plugs from firing. This is why you are getting the rough idle and Check Engine light coming on.

I would take the car to a good dealer who is familiar with this. Independent guys may be cheaper, but they have far less experience with this issue. You can't simply swap the coils -- you have to replace the gaskets to prevent the oil from leaking because this is the source of the problem. My guess is that you'll have to replace both gaskets and all 8 coils, but after that you'll be golden.

Good luck.

lol, again with the same topic, yeah my car did the same thing, i thought it was going to stall when it was idle, its def. the coils.

Sorry for late reply, didn't notice the thread.

I had a good experience there, no I don't know the mechanics personally. The advisor is really cool and he always gives me discounts. I have been there many times and they know me and my car very well.

The dealership itself is completely redesigned with new building and a new shop with all new equipment and that is good.

In case if you think of going there see Juan Alarcon I think his last name is, he is the main service advisor. You can tell him that you know Artur with the aqua blue LS, then he'll probably call cops on you looooooooool, j/k, he'll hook you up.

I dont mean to upset n e 1

tried my own post & its Dead....
the gaskets were replaced & I have looked for new oil on the boots & they are not leaking BUT I DID Find A LiL Bit' Of Oil that dealer forgot ( I cleaned them up & I looked today after driving & the wells are clean) I removed the #4 Plug & switched it out with #2 but still get #4 misfire, Checked coil with a lighted spark plug tester in circut & had great spark @ idle & while reving the engine,

Removed the fuel filter and checked for clogs ( Air goes in & out freely ) re installed with no change in idle.

Checked vacuum lines with a hose going from the car to my ear with no avail, Could I use a carb cleaner to spray areas @ a time time check for change in idle?

Removed the idle air valve (Electronic Part @ very front of intake held by 2 bolts) was BLACK & Gummy Cleaned with cleaner @ then WD40, wiped it down & reinstalled it (I use some sealant with the old gasket) No change idle

I remove the air intake setup @ look inside the throat of the intake (With out moving throttle) ITs Freaking Nasty & When I do open It up its BLACK & Gummy ( USE ONLY CHEVERON MED-Grade ) Would this be caused by the gas I am putting in?

I wanted to know if there was alot of oil say in the last plug well (#4) I think The Engine sits kinda layed back in there (#4 plug looks to be lower than #1 which would make the oil build up a LiL Bit' More...Let Me Know If I Am Wrong Please) If They Pulled The plug Out With All That Oil In The Well & It Seeped In The #4 chamber & Put it back in & fire it up cause #4 to Allways Misfire (Fouled)..

Is there anyway to clean that chamber with out taking the engine out & not damage any sensors For CA smog?

I forgot to mention When I first Pulled The #4 Plug Out It Does Not Match The Others (Has a diffrent color of writing & no "Baked on ring" that others show. But the same numbers on it & the gap was @ 1.6 mm!?!?!) I regapped it to 1.0 mm No change in idle These were changed ON 12-17-07 Why would there be rings on them excepth for the one that is diffrent color & gap....I think someone fudged this job?

30000 rpm in park sounds like crap

When I have the car in park or neutral & hold my foot down on the gas It gets up to just under 30000 rpms & it goes
"Waaaaaaa..waaaaaaaaaa..waaaaaaaaaa..waaaaaaaaaa..waaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
& water & mabey smoke Or cold air meeting hot air (gets about 30 here)

But @ 30000 rpms EXACTLY It sounds Like Chit,
29000 its fine

I am trying to be as descriptive as possible & thank you for taking the time to help.

Not really your thread dude, but it sounds like your hitting the limiter

First, not your thread. Second, that is the neutral/park RPM limiter. Third, what the hell are you doing holding the throttle down under no-load??? YOU are the reason that limiter is there!

definately a turbine engine....must be out of an old chrysler....:D
