I went to get some coolant @ Ford today. The clerk informed me that the 01 v8 needs the green one. I have always used the red kind. My question is, will my ls need the red now or can i switch up. I bough 2 4L bottles. Please advise

I've always used green. In fact, i need a new degas bottle as of an hour ago. Huge trail of coolant all the way up my driveway. Ends in a big puddle behind the front driver side wheel. I.m just glad i know what it is instead of freaking out about it. New one shows up tuesday unless the dealer can get one sooner.

"They" claim that mixing coolants is okay, but I would flush all the old coolant out with fresh water before adding the new. If the gen I is like the gen II, then most of the coolant does not just drain out, it will have to be flushed.

as far as your situation... Do not mix dex cool and regular green. If anything drain the red, refill with water, bleed the system while just using water, drain, and refill with green.

damn joe beat me to it. :) I.m typing from my cell phone.

i remember once when my coolant reservoir cracked and i had a good ol' puddle under my car, lol. it sucks! where did it happen? i was at a restaurant, and the valet guy had to come and tell me my car was leaking coolant. needless to say, it was rather embarrassing, lol.

i will definitely do that, thanks Joe

i hate typing from my phone for the same reason. the other day i had wrote a whole paragraph on another forum from my phone. my cell rang and for some reason everything deleted. i was like, "screw that, i'm not typing that again".

lol that happens to me quite a bit. Get almost all the way done typin up some huge response, and get a phone call, deleting my entry. Quite frustrating.

I noticed it while getting home last night. On the road, the hydraulic fan was running full boar, and temp guage was creeping up. Got home, and there was a trail of coolant up the driveway, and a puddle under the car.

I let it cool down, refilled (about 3/4 gallon  ) and rebled the system. No leaks this morning on the drive to work, and temp guage sat right where it was supposed to.

if my phone ever did that i would through it out the window so fast...

with my blackberry, if a call comes in, what ever you where doing just goes into the background and can be resumed after the call (or during the call as long as its not the internet browser)

hell yeah, you seem very calm, i would be too, its a easy fix when you know what it is, to someone that doesnt know, they would be so scared like WHERE IS THE LEAK! lmao

From 2004 Owners Manual:

Add Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant
(yellow-colored), VC-7–A (U.S., except CA and OR), VC-7–B
(CA and OR only), meeting Ford Specification
WSS-M97B51–A1.

Do not add/mix an orange-colored, extended life coolant such
as Motorcraft Speciality Orange Engine Coolant, VC-2 (US) or
CXC-209 (Canada), meeting Ford specification WSS-M97B44–D
with the factory-filled coolant. Mixing Motorcraft Speciality Orange
Engine Coolant or any orange-colored extended life product with your
factory filled coolant can result in degraded corrosion protection.

The gentleman who helped me at the dealership looked it up in the cpt and I believe the coolant might be year specific. With that being said I still plan to do as members have suggested and flush the system
