I have read through the forums trying to figure out what is needed next.
2000 LS V6. Currently 80,000 miles

7/2012 at 70,000 the cooling fan assembly 6W4Z8C607A was replaced along with the thermostat due to overheating.

Got it home after the funeral last June and replaced the top T hose (leak) and degas bottle due to further overheating in the Atlanta stop and go traffic.

Had the Lincoln dealer do a vacuum fill on the coolant to be sure. Also sucked out the oil in the pump system 5 times after reading about this procedure here. Oil was black and old. No further issues until yesterday.

Noticed the gauge climbing in 70F stop and go traffic. Turned on the heater and it cooled off.

Read up some and today checked the fan speeds as best I could. Slow starting up, turn on the A/C and it speeds up.

Wondering if the solenoid is going. not sure how to check.

Anyone have any suggestions?

And yes it has the clicking in the dash - drivers side blend door motor but just have not found the time to tear into the dash.

Thanks

The fan solenoid and the plastic cooling system parts that haven't recently been replaced should be your main suspects.

Replaced the Hydraulic Fan Pump Actuator - bought it off EBay from a Ford Dealer. A bit of a PITA to change but fortunately I have been collecting tools for many years - especially from estate sales. Cooling seems to be ok now - runs just below the 9 o'clock position on the gauge. Still have an intermittent clicking coming from up front.
And no constant heat - light heat on passenger side and cool on drivers side.
Ran the diagnostic code off cooling control panel - got the pass code. So it looks like either the DCCV or the AUX pump. Not sure how to trouble shoot that easily - may take into AutoZone and get a free code scan.

Auxiliary Coolant Flow Pump is for pushing coolant through when low idle and assist in after engine shutdown cooling.
failure of the DCCV, also know as Dual Coolant/Climate Control Valve is what causes the difference in temps out the separate vents.
If you get lots of heat with the RPM's up then it's the Auxiliary Coolant Flow Pump.

Could also be cold-air bypass door is stuck but most the time it's the DCCV and needs replacement.

The above is for 1st GEN V8 so mind that of course.
