My wifes LS had started doing the minor mis-firing thing a few months ago. It just got bad enough for us to be concerned so we dropped it off to the dealer. The first go around was the cylinder coil pack on cyl. #2. The very next time she drove the car it started acting even worst, so she was near the same dealer and dropped it off for the second time. It was coil pack on cyl. #8. Now, after seeing the labor cost for changing these items I know I can change them as well. I have already replaced all of the plugs, both of these coils and I am still having issues. I'm now driving the car to troubleshoot it. A couple of days ago on low-end the car died on it's face and gave me a P1309 code which I understand is a Camshaft Position Sensor. I cleared the codes and was driving the car again to try and replicate the problem and it did basically the same thing with few other crazy things. The car did not only stall it lost gear tracking and I got 3 new codes including the P1309. The other codes were P0715, P0720 and P1633. I found what all of the codes mean, but which is the real problem. I don't think I have a bad battery, so will the camshaft position sensor make the car get these other problems? Sorry for such a long thread.

I would get ALL the coils replaced first. They are on Ebay for $150 for all 8 or about $20/each. Have you found any oil in the plug wells? If so and I think with the early model LS you have you do. Then plan on changing the valve cover gaskets and plug well seals.
The camshaft sensor is not know to be a trouble spot but the coils are VERY common!!

Thanks for the reply. I believe the next step is to go ahead replace all of the coils. I haven't noticed any oil in the plug cavities yet. I'm just not sure why it is completely dying on me. Thanks again.

That cam sensor is a headache to change compared to the crank sensor. I had a difficult time getting the new one in.

I've already replace the cam shaft position sensor and I have new coils for all eight cylinder coming. I think I'm going to go ahead replace the crankshaft sensor as well. This way I hope I have everything covered from what I have heard. If the car is still doing it I'm not sure of the next step. The engine sounds and runs great I know this is something electrical. Thanks for everyones input.

FYI, I just changed all of my coils and it has solved my issues. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined it's not a bad job. The only issue I ran into was the coils were a little taller than the originals, so my cover would not go back on. I will probably install some thick 2 sided tape under them and call it good. If anyone has any other ideas let me know.
