1st gen vs. 2nd gen question

I am wanting to look at a 96 mark VIII which seems to be for a good price (has updated air struts, etc.)

My question, however, is that other than appearance and the motor cover (that I can see), are there any other major differences in the two generations?

Lots. Gen1 is OBD-I (except for '96 which is OBD-II), different front and rear ends, different interiors, Gen2 has neon tail light, Gen2 LSC has stiffer front and rear shocks and bigger sway bars, Gen2's are better sound insulated and heavier, both are awesome. I have one of each and love them both. My recommendation would be to google it. You'll see the differences that way.

also beware, 96's are a unique model, they are almost gen 1.5

although obd2, they have several hard to find unique parts on them,not shared with other year gen 1 or gen 2 mark viii's

Aftermarket are readily available and cheap. Get DLF's adapters and you are ready to go. I will take the Gen II's lighting over the candle light Gen I's anytime. After owning two gen 1's, I can honestly say the Gen II is superior.

Thats correct I'm letting the OP know he CANNOT go to parts store and buy stock bulbs for gen2.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I bought the first gen today. It needs a few things but motor is strong and tranny shifts very smoothly. Paint and body are in very good condition but its Gold lol. The guy was asking $2300- i bought it for $1900.

I prefer a Gen 2 anyday over a Gen 1, but that is just me

I prefer the body styling of the 2nd gen over 1st gen. But looks like that comes with more expensive HIDs and rear NEON on 2nd gen...
