1993 Lincoln Town Car Rough Idle

Hello everyone today my town car made a stop today at my sister school and it just shut off I turned the key to turn the car back on and it idled rough it shook like someone was tugging on it from side to side and it quit again. I was able to baby it home and after some time I parked it and after 20 minutes I cranked the car up again and went to the hood and stuck my ear and went around the hood when I got to the passenger side I could smell gasoline fumes. Now I think it's the EGR valve but any other thought would be helpful and yes No0c I would appreciate your help and others help.

I had a problem a few years ago with my CTS, I was stopped at a light and the engine started violently shaking and the engine light was blinking. I pulled into a parking lot near by and it stopped when I turned it off. I was able to take it over to the Cadillac dealership, and they had it for like two weeks because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it and were talking with the General Motors engineering team. It turned out the computer module was bad and sending false readings to their scan tool.

When you say you stopped and it just died I think IAC
And the egr's do clog up fairly commonly but that should throw a code.
How Manny miles on the car?
When was the cars last tune up?

eots44 thanks I will keep that in mind. Markviiiedrea I have no clue I don't have an OBD-1 reader. slowmkviii it has 191,256 miles and I bought it back in august and I have no idea when the guy had it tuned up but he said the spark plug wires have been changed recently.

EGR code would probably be a constant check engine light because its an emissions issue.

also look here for info on pulling OBD1 codes with a jumper wire or paper clip.

since your car is equipped with a CEL, ignore the test light part.

I tried the paper clip trick and got it right the first time I got codes 17,33,25,36,63 and 21 basically my car is running to rich my engine coolant sensor is out of range throttle is too low and my EGR valve didn't open what a surprise I was right on something.
