Hello everyone I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a 05 Lincoln LS V8 and I have to say this is a great car to own. I currently work for a Automotive Part Store and has been for 15 years now. I haven't sold many parts for these cars as much as others. When I first bought this ride all the Mechanics I know said Sell It. Lol!!! I don't plan on it as of right now.

I've run into my first issue already. I was driving around one evening and stopped at a store. I left my car running and came back to it steaming from under the hood. I reached in and shut it off. The temp hand was also climbing at the time. I popped the hood and noticed a Brown Substance coming from Coolant Recovery Tank. This substance turned out to be Oil. I got it to the shop and checked the Oil. My Oil was low. Wow! Next we removed the Oil Filter. Oil and Water came running out of the Oil Cooler. So now I have a busted Oil Cooler, a Slugged up Radiator, and a Slugged up Engine. We tried to flush the Radiator but it was too bad. Not even Purple Power would unclog it. The car just kept running hot.

So me and a friend Flushed the Engine. Replaced the Oil Cooler and Radiator. We started it up and fixed it. Then about 30 mins later of observing the Engine Temps the car started to Surge. It was not Idling properly. I heard a Ding and the Check Engine Light illuminated. Then the dash reads ETC Engine Failsafe Mode and Service Parking Brake. Wow!!! We then picked up the Scan Tool and retrieved Several DTCs.

P0221
P1000
P2104
P2111
P2135

These DTCs all revolve around the Throttle Body. Initially this car didn't Misfire, but it did after we unhooked the Battery to try and clear up codes and they kept coming back when the Scan Tool cleared them. Now my LS misfires and will not come out of ETC Mode. I'm hoping changing the Coils and Plugs would to the trick.

Can anybody recommend the Best Coil replacement for my Lincoln LS?

Thanks for your responses in advance!!

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your issues. There is lots of great help here.

I am on my 3rd LS. I had a 2000 that lasted to 217K or so then a 2006 that I had to sell when the economy turned and now just picked up another 2006 about 6 weeks ago.

Hope you get it worked out and can enjoy your car.

OP

as far as the best coils for replacement. I would say that OEM motorcraft is the only good way to go, if you try to save a few bucks by going with an off brand, more that likely, your just gonna run into problems again sooner or later.

I sell Standard at my store. I can get them for around $35-40 each. Not sure how they stack up next to MotorCrap (Motorcraft), but I might give them a shot. Standard claims to be Better Than OE and its true in some cases, but I do sell a lot on coils for the Ford 4.6 and 5.4 engines.

every coil add I have ever seen whether from a store or ebay always claims to be better than OEM... the problem is that there is next to no good performance aftermarket parts made for anything on this car. just tons of companies kicking out OEM quality replacements...

this car has a severe coil issue unlike any other car I have ever seen. there were defects in earlier models, and then there are a couple of other extremely common issues that directly affect the coils (VCG, leaky cowl seal), it has been well documented many many time here.

This is a update on progress. We changed 5 Coils and 8 Plugs today. I had to order 3 more Coils. The car is not Misfiring right now, but its still in ETC Engine Failsafe Mode. I'm now to the point of Chasing Down A Throttle Body.

not saying that your problem is not the TB, but marginal #3 and #4 coils are the ones most likely to cause RF interference that often gets misdiagnosed as as a TB problem. since you already have ordered the other three coils, you might want to give them a try before spending money on a new throttle body.

I sell Standard at my store.

For what it's worth, Standard Motor Parts are OEM.

I worked for a dealer for a number of years that bought parts from the manufacturer, and then turned around and sold them to Standard for 5% over cost. It worked to our advantage because of the volume, I'm talking like 500 coils on ONE invoice, and we'd do like 10 invoices a day (just at one location!) totaling a couple hundred thousand dollars a month.

We did this for every brand our dealer group carried; The big 3, multiple European luxury imports, and a few Asian imports.

Anyway, we put the order on pallets, and shipped them to a location on the Eastern seaboard, where Standard reboxed them, and sold them to places like Advance and Autozone.

That's what one of the Reps told me with our Intermotor line of Standard. He said Intermoter was 99% OEM. I just wasn't sure about the regular Standard. I know Blue Streak Standard was Better Than OE, but they dropped it and Reboxed it all in Standard.
