I have been thinking about upgrading to a LS2 400hp GTO, not really a huge fan of the shape, love the interior and the LS2 motor with the T-56 6 speed. Not even 10% sure of doing this yet, however the prices of the 04-05 are 11-13k now on ebay and autotrader which is a hell of deal for a 400 hp car or 350 if you get the 04. If I pick one up for 13k after selling the LSC it will be a small loan, just tossing it out there. what do you guys think?

I want the handling and power, the LSC is nice however they can't handle good due to size of the car and weight, old body design dating back to 90-91.

I love the GTO..but not sure if the gas mph is evan close to your Mark.My motto is pay cash!!!! if you cant, then keep the mark and save up, there will always be low mile mint cond cars to be found whenever your ready to buy it with cash!!

do it! goats are sweet! but if you want handling and power, get something used and mod it. like a used miata or mini and turbo it. you will be quicker, handle better, and cheaper to maintain.

I suggest you think twice before doing this. I have no comment about your choice of vehicle or reason for upgrading but I must say that: CAR PAYMENTS SUCK!!! Interest paid on car loans is wasted money. Don't forget that insurance, taxes, etc. will be higher on a newer vehicle too.

When I want to buy a car, I pay cash for it. Once I have the car, I start saving for the next one. The money you put in the bank will earn interest (maybe only a small amount ).This is better than paying interest on a loan. Also, if you pay cash, you can usually strike a better deal with the seller. If you are not making payments it gives you more leeway in making repairs and upgrades.

That might be true, very good advise as well however it will take me forever to save $13k cash, and it would suck to let it all go in one day:(

like I said it is just an idea for right now, I just believe how cheap the LS1 GTOs are the 98-99 f body cars are selling for 5-7k even with 120k on them.

Go for it, the GTO is a sweet car. Even though its GM, I'm sure it will out perform the mark. For sure. Just over 10K thats not a bad price for that much car.

I wanted a goat badly... decided 22k was too much money for me to pay (I had to have the ls6). I went out and found a low mileage mark instead, I knew the cars and figured with the extra 15k i could do whatever I wanted to it at any rate I wanted.

I personally dont like any of the new gms. As froggy said they feel cheap and chincy. And yesterday I put a water pump on an 07 impala ss V8. It only had 80,000 miles on it. It didnt handle for :q:q:q:q either. My mark has 178,000 and still rollin the original pump. G.m.s build quality has gone down drastically in the last ten years. G.M booooooooooooooooo

Tne 05/06 GTO is one of the baddest cars GM has ever built... buy it if you can...

Hmmm mixed reviews...

I'll say that the interiors are sub par... They put cheap stuff into the guts...

The drivetrains are immaculate though... The LSx platform is incredibly mod friendly. 500 Hp bolt on motors out of the LS6 and Ls2/7 motors... But you better get the 6 speed cause the autos are garbage!

And if you think you are going to get the heavy arse GTO to handle... you must be delusional! They weigh as much as our cars!

They wont handle but they are fast in a straight line and on the street. Id buy one if I had the money. I say go for it get a m6 05 or 06. I like the interior:rolleyes:

I have an 06 w/automatic, the LS2 is a beast and is about the same weight as a Mark with 100 extra ponies -the leather interior is beautiful and gas mileage depends on how hard you stomp the skinny pedal-go for it, the difference in the 04 and the 05/06 is all LS2, I drove the 6 speed but bought the automatic because I thought it was like a Mark on steroids-0-60 are low 5's and 1/4 's are low 13's, how can you go wrong for around $12,000? :D

it might weigh the same as the mark but remember the mark was designed back in late 80s early 90s, the GTO has atleast 14 years of engineering advancements. Dont get me wrong I love the mark on the highway, on the crappy Chicago streets the suspension sucks, even with new parts, there are way too many potholes to deal with and the suspension is not up to the task, also I work in the city and parking is a B@!#$ with a car this long.

anyway like I said just tossing out ideas, Peddlars performance makes allot of suspension parts that will make the GTO handle great. Tune, long tubes, x pipe, CaI will work wonders on a LS1/2

with the new unemployment numbers out today, it would be dumb to make a move on a Fun car that is 12-15k

You also like the seahawks... :D

this is true... i dont understand how people dont like them classy organization all the way through... Then you have teams like the cowboys and viking with tons of fans....:runaway: ok end rant and end off topic bs

The GTO's were all imported from Austrailia. Holden built them. Far better build quality than domestic GM products. It's known as the Monaro over there. The gas tank is enclosed in a steel frame behind the rear seat. My 05 got 16.5 MPG average but was an auto. The 6 speeds should get much better highway mileage. My worst issue was the front seats, not comfortable at all. & that colored leather faded fast. Otherwise it was a great car. If you see one for 12 or 13 thousand, that's a deal. Just my 2 cents...

keep the mark and buy the gto. the way the economy is and most peoples views about v8 cars fuel economy it might behoove you to wait a little while to see if the prices drop a little.
