We got an 04 V8 LS at my dealership and the mechanics can't figure out what's going on with it. It drives good, no misfires, a little down on power but not too bad. But when you put it in nuetral or in park it has no response at all. I've driven other LS's so I know how they are supposed to respond when you rev them up... any ideas? It only has 30k miles on it...

Is it no throttle response, or is it that it very slowly revs up and stops at 3500 (I think that's it) or so?

If so, then this is completely normal operation for the gen II with throttle by wire. Both of mine do this.

Hahahahaha..... you would like reving cars in neutral 98LSC...

Also what "response" should you be getting in neutral or park??

It revs up very slowly, liking it's almost dying. I don't think it's normal because I have revved up throttle by wire motors before such as a G35 and it's nothing like that... it also feels a little down on power when you go WOT compared to the 01 LS V8 I drove... and there is nothing wrong with revving up in neutral as long as you don't rev it above 3500rpm...

I understand that, but since you mentioned it's normal for a throttle by wire system to rev up like that, I told you my experience with throttle by wire. If the gen 2 is specifically programmed to do that then that's a different story. But it's not because it's throttle by wire...

Yes it is.

Go rev up an 00-02. It'll rev up to the park/neutral rev limiter just like any other car with an actual throttle cable.

Go rev up an 03-06 - completely different story.

And I'm talking an LS, not a G35. Or a Porsche Boxster. Or a Kia Rondo.

But I'd have no experience with that, obviously.

I don't see where you are disagreeing with me... It very well maybe that the slow rev in nuetral/park is normal for a gen 2 LS but it's not because of the throttle by wire system as many other vehicles with throttle by wire don't rev up slow. It must be something else that makes it do that...

Is that the new thing they call sarcasm? It must be the PCM programming I guess... otherwise if it was throttle by wire all vehicles with throttle by wire would rev up slow which is obviously not the case. In fact no vehicle I have ever tested before (and working at a dealership I have tested a lot) with throttle by wire acted like the gen 2 LS which made me think there was an issue with the car...

I still want to know why the :q:q:q:q you are trying to rev it up in neutral... do you drive in neutral?

I wanted to see what the 3.9 DOHC sounds like... why else do you think??

OK so I had to go test out another 03+ 3.9 DOHC. We have an 04 Thunderbird Convertible with the exact same motor and it does rev up exactly the same way... it's wack! Feels like the compression is at like 100psi all around and the mass air meter is unplugged...

Yep, I was dissapointed when I selected to remove the P/N rev limiter on the SCT x3 and saw no change.

Mine rev's up to the 3k P/N limit very slowly as well.

Sucks that I can rev my wifes $15k '06 foucs to redline but not my $45k Lincoln v8 :(

I too am curious why you want to rev to red line with out a load on the engine?

He already said "he wants to hear what his car sounds like" I can understand that, but I've learned to accept that its not going to happen :)

You spend a few hundred on a different sounding exaust and the only time you can hear it is when your moving with wind noise and intake noise drowning out your purty exaust sound.
