Well, I went ahead and bought 2 new side mirrors from an 04 ls and a new rear view from an 04. I did this so that I can get the folding mirrors, puddle lights and the electrochromatic drivers side mirror...

The upgrade was a simple project. I used the information gathered here for the puddle lights, but since there wasn't any info I could find for the EC portion, I had to wing it...

I dug out some schematics and started tracing. Guess what? it's the same plug on the 01 and the 04 rear views (as long as you get a mirror that doens't have the built in mic or is meant for in dash nav). The only difference was 2 additional wires that hookup from the rear view to the DS mirror. This is to control the EC portion of the mirror.

And it works! I love self dimming mirrors!

car's dirty, so I wont take any pics of it, but really, there isn't much to see... the main upgrade was the EC mirror, but you can't really take a pic of that feature lol

I have the mirrors on my LS and didn't hook up the EC mirror. Which wires or plug did you hook into? If I remember correctly there was a wire that I didn't use on the DS side. I'd like to have that work for sure. It is a great upgrade nonetheless.

The EC mirrors are one of my favorite features of my 03. The drivers side even more than the rear view. Hook it up if you can. The difference is... well.. night and day!:D

On the 01 and the 04 rear view mirror (04 must NOT have mic and nav), there is a 7 pin connector. Below is the pin-out for it:

What I did was hook up 2 additional wires on the 04 mirror itself (pin 4 and 5) and ran them direct to the DS mirror. I spliced them into the side mirror at the plug. Below is the pin-out for the side mirror:

I hooked up the wires to pin 1 and 11 on the DS mirror.

As you can see, it's pretty simple. The hardest part was routing the 2 wires from the cabin to the door. I dont like wires to show, so I had to run a "snake" through the harness loom.

Where you able to change the bulbs out to a brighter white? I read somewhere that if the side mirror puddle lights went out, you had to replace them... Is that true? I want to change my stock yellow lights to something more white.

That is correct. The bulb is sealed in a pod. Trust me. You can't get it apart.

Ken, I was looking on your site and wanted to verify something. What would be the most cost effective solution for getting a near HID look for my 03 without going with the expensive HID units?

Pardon me for butting in, but I think that you could simply replace your headlight bulbs with a quality bulb like Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. Since the real HIDs are low-beam only, you could get away with replacing only the the lows. But if you have never replaced the headlight bulbs on your '03, it is probably time to replace all of them anyway (they degrade and dim over time). Stay away from gimmicky brands, specifically any brand which offers a range of "colors".

I don't want to hijack this thread but halogen and HID is two different things. Typical halogen bulbs burn hotter than HID which will lessen its lifespan. HID bulbs will last much longer but do cost more. It all comes down to cost. How much you want to spend. You can get the Hoen Xenonmatch Plus bulbs that will give you that Xenonmatch look at a lower cost. However, they will burn hotter and require different connectors. HID is the next alternative. I have had the HID conversion kit on my LS for the past three years and never had a problem with them. I'll never go back to regular halogen again unless I have to.

Well, I cannot justify $500-$600 on headlamps so I guess the Xenonmatch Plus bulbs and connectors are my only options. Is there a problem with the heat? Will they damage my housings?

I have not heard of any problems as long as you get the heavy duty connectors. You won't have any problems.

How much did you pay for the mirrors? Where did you get them from?

i think it was 160 or 180 per side mirror and the rear view was 160 or so.... I don't have the exact numbers, but they were bought brand new from my ford parts guy

Ok, was just wondering. My price is about $160 per mirror.

that's okay... i've had the same dealer for years now, so even if his price is a bit more, i'm still loyal to him. but for those who are lookin for this upgrade, it's VERY worthwhile

What's the difference? night and day meaning? post pics pls..
