I've had this car for 6 years. Been in about 8 times for coil issues, a steering rack replacement, a transmission rebuild (at 33K) and a host of other issues. I assume the coil issues will continue since Ford doesn't know how to maufacture a better replacement product. Started changing them myself now due to the "limited" Customer Satisfaction Program expired. Oh yeah, I was supposed to ask about overheating issues...
OVERHEATING: Not really, just running a tad warmer than normal and the cooling fan is almost always on. The temp guage is only going 1/16th inch above horizontal, never higher, but used to ride 1/16th inch below horizontal. The guage never goes higher, but the electric fan almost always comes on after 5 minutes of driving in this cool San Diego summer climate. This all started after I took it in to the Ford dealer for a coolant system flush and fill. Mechanic said car war running a little warm, and recommended replacing the thermostat. I did, and had the coolant system bled. Only slightly better now, but fan still comes on, but not at as high of a speed.
Also, when I replaced my thermostat, I noticed that the inside of the housing looked like it had been carved out with a dull knife. There was no clean round edge for the thermostat to mount up against. It was very difficult to get the thermostat to sit correctly in the housing. What the hell is up with that?
Degas bottle was replaced already about 3 years ago. From what I hear from you dudes, I should just replace it and all of the other crappy plastic parts. Does anyone make any non-plastic parts, or better quality parts than Ford offers?
The definition of insanity...doing the same thing over and over and only getting the same results. Don't want no more crappy plastic Ford parts!
