'03 Aux install help.

Hey guys,

I have been searching around forever about installing an aux input into my 03 LS. I found a few pages in these forums but none of them had a definitive answer so i figured that since so much time has passed since then, someone would know for sure now.

I have the in-dash CD changer no nav system or anything else. When I hit the "CD" button twice nothing happens. Is it possible to install an aux input without killing my CD Changer?

I stopped bothering to look because mine did not have a SAT button. I wound up going aftermarket.

Short answer: can't be done.
Long answer: maybe you can swap the radio for an '04-'06 one?

Which suck ass since our antenna's are in the rear windshield. If I tossed the iphone on the rear seat I could get a clearer signal, but no matter where I put it it didn't sound good.

I have the interface to do so, haven't hooked it up yet because I haven't bothered to look to find what wire I need to tap into. I can and has been done by others here, though, so it's not an issue.

One other thing. I just looked at your pictures and noticed you had an in-dash double din (which is what i am looking into now) and your dash kit is silver. Is that something you painted or were you able to find one already that color? All I have been able to find so far are black ones.

I believe it's the stock navigation bezel that was modified to fit the D3. I bought everything from a member here, so it's as it was in his car.

Try LSKoncepts.com. I know he had them at one time, not sure on their availability now since I have no reason to look.

From my understanding, only the 2003 model had problems with this.

Don't bet on it. I have an 06 with stock navigation. I have tried four or five different adapters with it. None of them worked anywhere close to correctly or usable. They all caused the SAT button to pop up on the nav, but that was about it. One of them Works to the extent that the iPOD will play through it, but there is no control of the iPOD (at the iPOD or the nav unit), and shuffle won't work. Also, it crashed every so often and the nav would have to be unplugged to fix it.

Apparently, some iPOD interfaces will work with the 2004 and 2005 nav, but none are listing as working with the 2006 nav, and none would work for me.

peripheal just came out with a hard wire FM modulated aux kit (not a wireless fm tranmitter) and it works pretty good, it comes with an aux in that you drill a hole somewhere and mount (just like the new cars look like) or a dock connector that gets power and charges the Ipods (they do work with the new Ipods)
is it perfect sound quality? no, but it doesnt fade in or out, and sounds like a great FM station

all they make is black ones, so it needs to be painted, and i havent foung a rattle can that is a perfect match, but i got pretty d@mn close, i have been thinking about having it painted when i have my LSE grill painted (no, not the same color)

all you need to do is tap the red wire into ACC, black into ground, and the white wire in to the resistance wire in the harness, you have an 04 right? if so, its the wire in PIN 18 in the 24 pin harness, you will also need to ground PIN 19




the only thing i dont like about the steering wheel control adapter is that you need to hold the button down i little bit longer, not a lot but enough that if you just tap the button it wont regester

yes, that is the bezel that NYC was referring to, and the F-90bt is the same size as his D3, i have the F-900bt, which is almost the same thing, just with lower powered pre outs

There is a little of work needed to make it work, you will need to take a dremil to it to trim it up to give the radio a place to stick out, but it will match perfectly

No....they don't. I have an '03 with Nav. and I have a iPod hook up for my car. Its a pain in the ass to get hooked up and hide everything but it works.

Don't bet on it.

I went with a basic PIE aux-out adapter, not a ipod-specific adapater. You are correct that you have no control over the ipod this way. All controls need to be via the ipod. I think you were alittle confused on the advice given, for the '03 LS the only way you can hook up an ipod to the factory deck is if you have navigation. Otherwise there is no aux/sat button for you to switch modes with.

Pain in the ass, really??? Pull 4 pieces of trim, unbolt a few bolts, slide radio out, plug adapter in back and tuck away wiring and black box, close it up, win!

Basically This car was super easy to run the wiring to the ipod mount too, there was plenty of space and it was really easy to fish the wire through the dashboard (I mounted my ipod on the vent left of the steering wheel).

Had one of these on an old 6disk trunk changer, worked ok. Didn't have the best sound system though, so can't comment on quality.

Thanks dude. Good to know. Unfortunately I just had the D3 out this weekend to hook up that Pioneer XM module. Screw it, no steering controls don't bother me that much.

Actually there is a perfect spot for the aux box, in the upper right corner the frame that surrounds that area has a hole in it and you can tuck the box up there. No rattles at all.
