Does the intake need to come off to swap the EGR valve assembly on an 03 3.9?

Thanks,

JD

Nope. Just be careful with the metal gasket. It is pita to get if it falls into the engine bay. Use grease on the sides of it to hold it in place. Good luck.

I bought a Motorcraft EGR and it came with the gasket and new bolts. The gasket locked the bolts in place. The intake does not need to be removed. It's a little tight but not too hard. I believe the tube fitting is 22mm.

Thanks for the feedback. I have the new Motorcraft EGR assembly in-hand, and it does include the shim gasket and new bolts. At first glance, it appeared that the steel EGR tube had to be removed in assembly with the EGR valve, and then disassembled on the bench. I'll give it another look tonight.

Thanks!

Nope, just unscrew it at the EGR and pull the steel tube out of the way.

Thanks to everyone for their answers and help. I switched the EGR yesterday, and it seems to have taken care of the CEL. Knowing that the tube disconnected at the EGR gave me the confidence to lean on it a little bit, and it came right off. When something seems flimsy like that, I like to back off and get some feedback before plowing ahead with a bunch of force. Thanks again!

Cheers,

JD
