02 ls v6 abs & advance track light questions

Hi all. I have a few quick questions about abs and advance trac.

First I just replaced the alternator and battery now occasionally the abs and advance trac comes on one in a while id say days apart Idk what's making it come on but usually when I turn off the car for a while then back on it's gone.


Can it be that I have a radio system? I'm running a 500wat and idk what the other amp is straight towards my battery what should I do? I think it's the radio but has anyone else have this issue?

Should I get a capacitor or run two battery's? Or can it be something else.
 
I'm no expert, but I don't think your radio would do it. Keep the volume low for a week or two (I know, it's hard when it's new; I have a new deck and two 8" subs in the factory shelf location) and see if it happens again before you rush out to supplement the audio. Does the music weaken when the bass hits? If not, then you're probably not pushing the charging system to the limit.

For the record, a capacitor just helps the music hit hard, so to speak. The higher the volume and lower the pitch, the more power it takes to make the sound. If your music plays fine without the bass, but seems to lower when the bass hits, a capacitor may help by storing a quick burst of power and supplying it when the sub kicks. Other than that, it's not "found" power as some people want to believe. A second battery is like a super(x100)capacitor. If your stereo is taking more power than your alternator can spare, throwing more batteries at it is only prolonging how long it takes to discharge.
 
long story short, don't even think about adding a second battery. if one battery is not enough power, then that means that your alternator is not making producing enough power.


since the output voltage is higher from the alternator than it is from the battery, everything (should) gets power from the alt when the motor is running.

batteries don't make power they just store it, so they are just for starting the car, they can be used to run the electronics when the motor is off, and they also smooth out the voltage ripple that the alternators rectification process creates (this is why you don't ever run a modern car without a battery and why the LS sh!ts the bed when the battery is failing). so if the alternator is not producing enough power then the batteries are running down when they start the car, then the batteries are running down when the dar is running, they are never getting charged back up and sooner or later they are going to get damaged.

as a side effect, when you add a second battery, you are now adding one more thing for your alt to try to have to charge, you are actually adding more work for the alt to do, eventually this will damage the alt...






when you have a real powerful system that needs a lot of current requiring multiple batteries, properly designed systems will either run off the standard charging system if they are only used for short periods of time* or they will have multiple alternators custom mounted if the car is to be driven around with the stereo blasting the entire time

*EXAMPLE: during a sound competition, and you're playing your music/sound as loud as you can, its usually only for 30 seconds or so, then you shut it down (just the system) and allow the batteries to recharge or place the car on a battery charger before the next round.



that being said, I've ran a 1500W RMS amp since I've had this car (hard at times) no cap, single battery. It used the OEM battery until it failed (from age, not heavy use, it was over 8 years old) then it was replaced with a single good quality deep cycle (so that I could run the acc longer with the motor off and not worry about killing it from over draining the battery). I dont think you should have a problem with such a small amp
