Long time lurker, just signed up today because doing several searches I could not find this particular problem.

01 LS, guess its the sport as it has 17" wheels and the sst shifter? Sorry but this is my son's car.

Transmission has had the hard shifting from P to D and from what I've read probably the solenoids/valve body.

Today, on his way to work, the tranny would not work in automatic. Only works is the SST side, manually shifting it. Also, reverse stopped working entirely. In Auto, you can hear the tranny shift, but won't move the car in either direction.

I'm going to drop the pan tomorrow to see if it's full of metal etc. Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks in advance!

The friction are usually not a problem on this car. Sounds like a solenoid issue. After you drop the pan let us know what color the tranny fluid is. It is tough to refill these trannies manually.

Well, got the pan off today. Fluid was an orange/brown color. Bottom of pan had some shavings on the magnet, but the rest of the pan seemed fine. Did not look anything like the photo in the 5R55 repair thread.

Was thinking of ordering a solenoid pack and see what happens. Is there something else I could be missing or any other advice?

Also, the car has 145K, 2001, and the pan had a couple of mis sized bolts, so I would assume someone has changed the fluid at least once. My son has only had it for about 15K.

Thanks again!

Here ya go. Looking at these pics, especially with the flash, sure looks worse than it did yesterday. What do you think?

I think that you need to do a full detergent flush and then fluid exchange. I'd change the filter and maybe take the valve body apart and clean/rebuild it. I think that you're already planning the change out the solenoid assembly.

Having this same issue... I've been letting the car sit for a couple months now, and driving my E36 in the winter...

Any ideas other than a trans flush? My money's on the TCC solenoid or the torque converter itself.

Has anyone replaced the TCC solenoid on these cars? is the TCC solenoid part of the solenoid pack?
