Hello,
I have an 01 LS with the factory Alpine audiophile system in it. I just installed an aftermarket Alpine 9831. I hooked up all four door speakers and the subs in the rear shelf. I am having a problem with the rear factory subs. When I turn the radio on I get a pop or a thump from the rear subs. Other than that it sounds great.
I installed a pop stopper on the rear amp but that didn't work. It just delayed the pop.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Do I have to get an aftermarket amp for the rear subs?

Thanks

Is the factory amp connected to the remote turn on or the acc from the car?

by pop stopper do you mean noise supressor? how did you wire the amp to the HU?

I did connect the remote turn on from the head unit to the correct lead from the amp. I had to buy a conversion from Crutchfield to do this.

It's actually called an amp trigger delay. I bought it from logjam electronics.

P.I.E. EIS-PS Amp trigger delay

It just delayed the pop.

I've used them before and they usually work.

Try something, connect the sub amp turn on to the red accesory wire.

The noise you're describing sounds like the sub amp is turning on after the radio has started to send a signal to it.

I had the same problem with one of my systems. It was a timing issue.
If the amp turned on before the radio started sending signal, no pop.

If that doesn't fix it put the delay on the radio turn on after the remote turn on for the amp. This way you will make sure the amp is on before the radio.

Let us know if the pop goes away or not.

Just an idea.

i had a similar issue months ago and the problem was with my hu. I would also get a pop when switching from radio to cd and when changing stations. Its caused by a surge or spike to the speaders somehow. My hu was also giving me alterbator wine noises.

after replacing defective head unit
A defective head could definatly give unwanted noise. What brand was it and did you get another of that same brand or a different one?

It was a pioneer premeir DEH-P760MP One of their better models. They replaced it with warranty no problems at all except i had to send it in and was 2 weeks without the cd player. They blamed the problem on shipping.

the factory turn on is 6v and the aftermarket turn on is 12v, just place a resistor (sorry I dont remember the value, i think it was around 1450 Ohms you might have to try out a few) in line with the turn on wire, problem fixed
