Ever since I bought the car it has always shifted pretty hard, but lately it has gotten worse. A few days ago it wouldn't shift out of first, and it keeps getting gradually worse for all other gears. So I'm in the mindset that I need a new transmission, I went to a few places today and got different answers from all of them. I know that the transmissions tend to go bad in the earlier LS's so lets say that is the problem, how much am I looking for a brand new transmission + install?

You problem might be the solenoid packs.
I need to keep shopping around a find a trustworthy person who isn't going to give me the run around to get all my money, but let's just say it does need a new transmission, like I asked earlier how much has it cost you guys?

Don't KNOW the answer, but the trannies I have had rebuilt over the past 10 years cost me on average about $2500 for a complete "bullet proof" rebuild including several significant hard parts, usually Sun Reaction Shells.
I have heard prices for these trannies between $1000 and $3000 for a rebuild with unknown(by me) quality.
The two trannies I had rebuilt were an E4OD Ford in 1998(?) and a 4L60 Chebbyin 2004. These rebuilds were at a reputable shop in Oregon. Your price will vary depending on local pricing competition, and what is broken.
I would expect your LS tranny to be in the same ballpark. The tranny is relatively common in various disguises so I would assume parts are not a problem.
