found it! I had a Cadillac dealer run some diagnostics, and it turns out the transmission is fine - one of my coil packs is going bad, and the ICM is going with it (also causing stalling at idle), causing misfiring. Allot easier to work on that than a transmission.

I have a 96 Deville that seems to be using oil - it will go from Full to Add on the dipstick in 3,000 miles. No clouds of blue smoke or any emissions issues (passesd inspection in late March). Is this normal for the engine to go thru that much oil in 3,000 miles? Im taking it to the dealer...
