The "L" is for the left side exhaust, and the "R" is for the right side exhaust. I guess they wanted it to be a foolproof install.

Any competent exhaust shop can trim the rear valance so the tips fit the bumper flush. It is not a MAJOR modification, exhaust shops do it all the time. The tips will look excellent on the LS also, the car doesn't have to be an LSE. A little trimming and the car would look AWESOME with the tips.
