When I lived in south Florida, my neighbor's car was flooded. He just changed all the engine/trans/rear end fluids and took the interior completely out (replacing carpet).
He ran the car for awhile after that!
Guys, I put changing my oil adapter gasket off FOREVER, but believe me when I tell you - it's NOT that bad. Take of driver's side tire, go through the little subframe opening for three of the bolts with a long 3/8" extension and get the last bolt from under the car.

Maybe there is/was something wrong your tranny? A '93 tranny is one of the FIRST 4R70W's and has had a TON of improvements over the years. Considering you can get a late-model 4R70W for under $200, it doesn't take many problems with your old one to be "not worth fixing".
