    ok i'm lost....another suspension problem

opps.. my appologies.. I didn't read Walt's 2 posts before posting in that other related air-suspension thread.. and i essentially just repeated the fact that the solenoids are "hot" even with the trunk switch off.. The only thing i dont agree with is vacuum testing the lines.. and only...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

I generally agree about the solenoid's o-ring being the only likely point for a leak, but the solenoid valve is just a valve.. and valves leak if some dirt or rust or something gets in there between the valve and it's seat. The combination of a leaking solenoid-valve and an air line or...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

I want to caution people about working under these cars.. If you accidentally cut or disconnect a air line or WHO KNOWS WHAT, the car might drop like a rock and trap bodies or body parts.. My front end is about one inch from the concrete when air fails and the car sinks. If you're under the...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/tech/lincoln-mark-vii/AirSuspensionSystem/MarkVIISuspension.pdf link was broken.. this one works. So does the one in one of my previous messages. This file comes from the "Announcement: Current Lincoln Mark VII Tech Articles " link on the main ...>...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

There are little adjustable height controllers on each front wheels and one in the back in the center. Perhaps the one in back has a loose electrical connection or some other fault. Grab that file http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/te...ISuspension.pdf and go through the 10 (?) step testing...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

The solenoid might be just an additional leak avenue. If the solenoid is 'open', the bag leaks down faster than if a hole in the air-bag were the only way air could escape.. There could be more than one problem with the left side system. But if activation or non-activation of the solenoid has...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

jimbob.. check this out. I found it while messing with my air springs. It's a pretty good guide to the system. It differs slightly from the Service Manual and provided me with a little additional info. It has the diagnostic / troubleshooting procedure. It will familiarize you with the system...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

nevermind.. i think i got it. If any of the 4 solenoids (or air lines) were leaking, all four springs will leak since they share a common manifold. Even with the air-switch ON and engine running, the pump would probably be running all the time and would eventually cut-out. And all 4 corners...

    Intermittent air suspension leak

i'm just curious.. couldn't it be a leak at the F/Left air spring solenoid, in particular it's O-ring? With the air-ride trunk switch off, all 4 air-spring solenoids should be 'closed'. But I'm thinking that if, aside from the O-ring, that the solenoid valve itself is leaking and in...

    Braking System

I have a '88 Mk7 .. I looked in the manuals for something the parking brake and the anti-lock system have in common but found almost nothing. The Parking Brake indicator light / switch wiring does lead to the EEC module. The parking brake release linkage is vacuum operated when the tranny is...

    Help

Check for spark when cranking.. Use one of those cheap neon spark testers on a spark plug and have someone crank the engine .. If you see spark, it's not getting fuel. Put a pressure gauge on the little schrader valve on the fuel rail. Turn the key to "Run" and off a couple times. The fuel...

    88 Mark 7 no start

Fixed for good.. (no start only when cold) The problem returned so I took it to my mechanic and they found a bad solenoid.. not the fuel pump solenoid but another fuel-delivery solenoid. I think he called it the injector solenoid. I asked if they found it with a diagnostic but these older...

    ok i'm lost....another suspension problem

For what it's worth, i was messing in the engine compartment on something unrelated and i take it for a ride.. (88 Mark7) The front end is on the ground?? Back in the garage i run all the air suspension self-tests. Pass all tests but the front end won't pump up. Compressor runs for 90 seconds...

    New Guy with a Question

I see no such specification in the service manuals but a quick check shows real close to 63 inches from lug nut to lug nut.. stock aluminum wheel thickness is probably 1/2 inch... I'm going to say 62" (+/- 0.5").

Owners Manual and some other stuff

I still use the one i made about 10 years ago when I owned a early '80s Thunderbird .. that T-bird Body service manual was kind enough to describe this trim tool and there was even an illustration and instructions on how to make one. I can't find it in the MarkVII manual. All it says is...

Owners Manual and some other stuff

"...Anybody know how to pull the inner door molding. The passenger lock isn't working and I'd like to see if I need a new lock solenoid or if the connection is bad....." I have a 88 MkVII but this might be useful. Make a flat prybar from a piece of 1/8 or so steel.. about 1 inch wide and 6...

    Sifrino: Rear Gears

The formula seems too simple for the page to get it wrong.. but you never know. MPH = (RPM x Tire Diameter) divided by (Gear ratio x 366) This page has several handy formulas so you can do it on paper.. calculating the effects of changes in RPM, tire diameter, gear ratio, etc...

    Sifrino: Rear Gears

I would not suspect the calculator on that page is wrong. If what you said is all true, the wife's car's speedo is off... or perhaps your tach.. or both.. or some other factors or combination of factors.

    88 Mark 7 no start

Thanks for the link. Lots of good info including the stuff i was curious about. The page on cleaning the headlight lens' will come in handy. I didn't want to take the chance of making things worse by attempting to polish out the dull yellowish haze, but I am now inspired to give it a go.

    88 Mark 7 no start

Yes, it does have a vacuum line attached. There's some sort of balance between fuel returning to the tank and the degree of vacuum... Air/fuel mix does need to be especially rich when cold starting. After cranking for just a moment and then venting the schrader valve on the fuel rail, there was...
