This kid shows how you wire it up as long as you have the backing plate to hold the HID bulb in the housing you should be good to go

The original factory bulbs were Phillips. Ford parts does still sell HID bulbs for the LS. They add a pretty good markup. Are you sure that the brightness decrease isn't due to the headlight lens clouding up?
