It is a gen 2, it sounds just like secondaty tensioners might be the problem, but all I found around here is that its almost impossible for that to be a problem, and if I have to replace the whole timing chain system I would rather just drive it until it dies instead. The rattle on start up started about 2 year and 20k km ago, doesnt seem to be getting worse although the engine is little noisy. On very cold startups when engine crancks for a while before starting the rattle is very minimal/not there, and hour or two after driving no startup noise, and for 4-6 hours after driving startup noise is minimal. I did try to scout as much as possible but all I found regarding gen 2 is 1 guy that replaced secondary ones and that fixed nothing. If someone knowlegable could help me out on this one I would really appreciate it, let me know if you need any other details, to help. Please and thanks!

Its been a while, but I'll try to explain this. It's the cam phasers. There is a lock pin that that keeps everything in time until full oil pressure kicks in. At that point the Variable Valve timing takes over.

IIRC...the cam phaser has a spring loaded check ball that gets internally "pushed aside" until the phasers get full oil pressure.

There are threads on this. In the search bar in the top right corner search for "engine rattles at startup"

That all I can give you at the moment.

That is actually very helpful, havent seen the cam phasers come up anywhere but it atleast doesnt sound so bad that my timing will skip itself. I did also notice just recently that there is some extra tick coming from the passenger side of the engine which I though was timing chain going worse... if you could send link to a thread you are refering to I would greatly appreciate that, but I will look into this completely alien thing to me. Thanks
