Interesting PBS program about self driving cars. The technology is almost to the point... where a person will be able to sleep on the way to work. o_O

Look Who's Driving

At about minute 45:30 there is an electric Delorean that is drifting through cones... all by itself.

Call me old fashioned but isn't this taking it a little too far?

I think so. I predicted this about 5 years ago. And I can see the day coming when the car decides what is best for you.

Roads too slick... nope... you're staying home, (explain that one to the boss).

Or roads too slick on a long trip... the car will force you to the closest motel... and if its a fleabag or the rooms are full... too bad.

The local Walmart has robots working in the store now.

What is their purpose?

Check stock levels, verify price labels, and look for stuff out of place. At this point they notify a human to come and fix whatever issues they find. I assume that will eventually change.

Uh huh... so it is able "recognize and differentiate" things. Maybe even someday... people.

They don't need a robot for that. There are plenty of security cameras in all the stores. For all we know, they may already be doing this. The casinos around here most certainly do.

That is true. However... the robot IS replacing a human worker that could earn a wage. Granted... the economy is good now... but when the next downturn happens, then that robot will be hurting someone... just like the PBS program mentions.

Yeah... that 3rd pic is actually in the Frontline video. It's in stop and go traffic.

And people wonder why the government thinks the general public needs protected from itself.

The easier things become for us... the dummer we get. That picture proves that common sense has be outbred from the human race... at least in this country.

Hey Cam... if you watch the Frontline video... there is a segment where it breifly shows a concept car drawing... with beds in it. That's more or less what my original comment was about.
