Took the Mark to the track

Heh, my 98 would ping like a sonofabitch here in Phoenix. :) Probably had something to do with the fact that I ran 87 octane in it. As you might guess - I didn't floor it very often. LOL *edit* - even with a tank of 91, you could hear it REALLY LOUD on the dyno. I have a video...

Because high octane fuel burns slower and is more resistant to ignition. If it is unnecessary (like it is in your car) then it will provide no benefit, and will likely just slow you down. Run the minimum octane you can get away with without detonating.

Sorry, I was talking to the original poster, not you - but I can see how you thought I was talking to you.

Took the Mark to the track

It's all practice practice practice. I went to the track twice in three days, and made 23 passes in that time. With that amount of practice back-to-back, you'll definitely be "tree-ing" the other guys. :) I had a .018, a .021, and a couple .03x reaction times. Needless to say, that was...

    Royal Purple or Mobil 1

Both are good oil. I run Royal Purple in my 'fast' cars, and normal conventional in my normal car. Change your oil at regular intervals and I doubt you'd see much difference between the two for a normal streetcar.

    Installed Amsoil conical pics

Christ, just google it if you don't believe me. Are you really saying that a fan that flows 4500 CFM under the hood of an engine doesn't create turbulence? Seriously? Is that what you're telling me? This board is chock full of a bunch of 14-15 second cars owned by people who apparently...

Your reading comprehension sucks. Please quote the post where I said the car will run funny. I said that the MAF transfer function is affected by turbulence from the engine fan, and that the filter should be shielded from it. I love it how everybody reads one things and understands...

Then what the hell was the point of your original post? Just for the sake of argument? Some of the people on this board really confound all reason sometimes.

Weren't you the one who said not ten posts ago that you've been running no shield for years, and so on and so forth? Why install one then if there's no reason to?

LO AND BEHOLD! It's shielded from the engine!?!?!?! Why on earth would they do that?

It's not a bad idea to run a conical. I'm saying it should be shielded from the engine and fan. Oh, and it appears Ford seems to agree:

I have made 23 passes in the last four days, and I own two EFI Mustangs. Moreover, I'd venture to say that I even know a thing or two about fuel injection. Just beacuse people do it, doesn't make it a good idea. There's lots of stupid sh!t installed on cars everyday. Paul.

It has nothing to do with failures... Ah Christ, nevermind.

How exactly would you (or others on this board) know if your MAF transfer function is being affected by turbulent air from engine fan wash? I remember some information from Pro-M about how hot, turbulent air from the engine fan can disrupt the MAF transfer function, and make the incoming...
