Research the common problems and get those fixed first. The plastic in the cooling system is a big problem with many threads. Parts are now difficult to find.

I would get a shop manual first.
Plenty of them on EBay. Printed and on CD.
Then I would concentrate on finding out the factory part number and see what you can find. Now with the age of the car you might only have used parts available or have to fix up something yourself.

As with all AC problems. Get a set of gauges on it and post back the hi and lo side pressures. With the age of the car you probably have low Freon for sure.
You did not post how many miles but again your at the age where the car might need a new compressor. Or the fan is bad or both?

Maybe count the flashes on the red light as it maybe giving you a PATS code.

The TC came with the 4.6L and those are real common so I would not do the 351 conversion. Too much work and expense for no gain.
