the PCV valve screws into that box, I would get a PCV valve and put it in while you are that far in.

Year? Mileage? Engine? But, It's most likely time to replace ALL of the plastic cooling system parts. Your main problem is probably the degas bottle have small cracks that leak under pressure.

Any particular reason for deleting the EGR?

Could be failing or sticking expansion valve. If it's stuck open, it's only getting enough flow to function somewhat with the higher RPM's.

Without the code it could be low fuel pressure, (replaced fuel filter) all the way to bad cats. probably weak coils though.

The only reason my '02 overheated was a stuck close thermostat and that caused the degas bottle to fail.

when I repaired my wiring damage from a small fire, on the harness side of the O2 sensor, at least on my '02 LS, there are two wires that have the same color code and are listed both as ground, but go different places. I just soldered them back together because I didn't know which was which, but...

Dupont trade name for R134-a is Suva, replaces the old DuPont trade name for R-12 (Freon). Also, on my '02 V6 the low side port is on the compressor.

If you think it was a wiring issue, I would have pulled the entire transmission harness out of the parts car and put that in. Cutting and splicing wires in a car is asking for more trouble.
