I have replaced 2 on my 2002 both had had oil at one time in the wells before vc gaskets replaced.

Sounds like ignition switch contact problem which is not so expensive.

My 02 V8 has 71k on it and is one of the most dependable cars I have owned. The REM module, clock spring, and valve cover gaskets were replaced under warranty. I replaced 2 failed coil on plugs.

Don't waste your time These coils must be tested under load using a special tester. A simple resistance check will tell you nothing. I had 2 coils to fail and both had about the same resistance as 2 good coils I checked.

I bought 4 of these over a year ago and replaced 4 of my old ones. They are all still working fine. Two of my OEMs had failed which I replaced and I kept 2 originals that had not failed for spares. They look like the ones I took out of my 02 but have a different number.

As I recall Cats are one of the emission components warrantied for 7yrs/80,000mi.

I wonder how he tested them with voltmeter. I tried testing with voltmeter and two of mine that had failed tested fine. The dealer said the only way to test them is under load which requires another tester.

As I recall emission parts such as catalytic converter is covered under warranty until 7 years/80k miles or something like that. Check your manual to be sure. And don't be putting any chemical to clean it because that will destroy it or do nothing at all.

The squealing when you step on the gas could be the drive belt slipping. Did you replace the hydraulic pump for the fan also? Have you checked to be sure the fan turns on when you turn on the A/C?
