need help getting 12.7 miles per gallon

Tell us more about the engine and tranny.

12.7 is low even with the V8 and your foot in it most of the time.

My worst mileage in heavy stop and go with hard accelerations on my V8 is maybe around 15. My usual commute is 18+ and long distance freeway at 70+ is about 24.

Does the engine stumble, make noises etc? Has anything changed recently?

When was your last tuneup if needed? Plugs? O2 sensors? Air cleaner?

Tell us more,

Jim Henderson

I have a CAI and exhaust. I changed the plugs and ignition coils last year around june. But it hasn't but running funny or anything just crappy gas mileage

im getting 13.4 and i hammer on the gas constantly and im driving city so there has to be a problem there

Our winter blend fuel usually has a negative effect on mpg....

are you just going off of what the computer says or are you going the old school calculations to confirm?

I'm going off the computer I will try the old school way when I fill up the tank.
I was thinking of changing the cats. How much would that cost?

Are the cats easy to put on or do I need to go to a shop?

Depends on how motivated you are. They are held onto the manifold by four flange stud nuts. There might be welding out the other side, I don't remember off the top of my head

If you don't want to do it yourself you could buy the cats and take it to a muffler shop and have them install them

Yea.. I had the use of a hoist in shop class. They are a pain. I would use universal cats. The ones from ford are expensive. I broke 2 studs and had a hell of a time trying to get them out. hard to get heat up there

How can you check if the cats are clogged? Also will changing the fuel filter help with this problem? What else can I do to help with the gas mileage?

Take if to a muffer shop and they will let you know.

Probably Summitracing.com or JEGS.. They will have to be universal and the same size I'm running.. Which your going to have to search for because I can't remember at the moment

What would be the best web site to check?

Ebay. Look up the part number on magnaflows website then search it on ebay. I found for Magnaflow stuff ebay is the best place to get them. Another way is to google the part number and use the shopping option.

A word to the wise. In California you must use catalytic converters that were certified with that car. It must have a special number on it referencing this certification. If you don't and go to a smog shop that looks and the number isn't there they will say your car is tampered with and fail you.
