painting calipers tonight... any tips ??? also i was thinking black , what do you guys think?

I say red cause you can't really see black unless you get close, but thats just me.Going to do the same soon. Post pics after

i wanted to do a dark gray but they dont make that color but i guess i could just make it myself. Red is a little to flashy for me plus my rotors are horrible looking..

Have you seen pictures of ls with black paited calipers? Well if its red it will stand out more and the caliper will be noticed more than the rotor. My rotor isn't that great looking either.Thie third one is my LS, the wheels and caps are photoshoped. The caps are a little too bright and not realistic, but you get the picture. Rodewaryer and Pektel, sorry for useing your pics, just wanted to show your painted calipers.

1) Rodewaryer's LS
2) Pektel's LS
3) My LS- Photoshoped rims and painted caps

was looking at the last picture and thought it looked a little weird and i about called you out on a photoshop picture but then i read through again and missed the part where you said it was photoshopped. glad i didnt post it and look like a jackass. :)

Yeah was just trying to see how the red caps would fit in with a white ls.The red is a bit too bright, I only had the 30 day trial and its over now so I can't fix it and make it a more realistic color.

well they didnt have the duplicolor kit so i ended getting spray on but they did have they dark grey color i wanted ,im in the process right now ,im half way done.. ill get some pics up in the morning..

Kit? you mean spray can? I have the red duplicolor can.

Cool, I was gunna say black Sancho. That or if you cant find grey you can use grey wheel paint which I know everyone that carries paint has or grey engine enamel. It needs to be high heat paint.

I like the sounds of a glossy grey. I saw a new TT with what appeared to be a primer grey but very smooth and high gloss.

Make sure you clean everything with a degreaser first and do like I said in one of my posts on painting the rear surround. Just make sure you wet sand the primer before the base coat ( if your using one ) and the base coat before the clear coat.

You should be able to find high temp paints for both primer and clear as well.

Good luck, anything on a close up of those side markers yet?

They sell caliper paint kits. I think he is referring to the brush on kind.

What ever works but I would take the whole caliper off and do it that way.

Brush on huh. That would be less measy. At like autozone? You have to primer and sand the caliper too? I was just going to use caliper cleaner for take the grease off. Maybe I should research more before painting them :D

I would do it just for a more smooth look. Plus it helps clean them as well. You should also bake them in the oven to help strengthen the paint.

And yes, again something most parts shops carry.

yea i did end up using engine paint ,they didnt have anything at autozone.. they had like 2 caliper paints but no brush on kits,so i just went with the engine paint.. ended up using a dark grey.

Baking the caliper? So have to take them off? This will be fun.I guess it would be a lot easier to take them off then doing it on there

VHT makes some caliper paint also. I think they have the biggest assortment of colors, not sure.

I used some regular high heat paint that was laying around the shop on my old LS. They held up over a year and still were black when I traded it in. I prefer black as there's no reason to call attention to some tiny ass stock calipers.

Time to pic whore yet again :D

I am seriously thinking about re-doing mine black. Here's a couple pics so you can see the red better. I just think that it stands out too much. I have been going for subtlety with my LS, so I don't think the red calipers really "fit". So far, I have only done the fronts.

Anyways here's a couple ones that show the calipers a little better:

i think the red looks good but yeah black would look good also ,but i would consider dark grey , i really like the way it looks on mine..

I like black. That is what I did. Do a search and you should see plenty of pics and discussion of tips and processes.
