Ok so I've been tearing into the LS trying to find out the sizes of LEDs to swap out some of green colored lights that people haven't swapped out yet. I tore into the cigarette lighter/center console last night and took a couple pictures of the led that lights the ash tray. I haven't really seen an LED like this before Anyone have a clue what it type is?

Also these are out of the steering wheel look pretty basic to me but anyone know off the top of their head by looking at them?

Sorry the pics are kinda blurry, it was hard to get a good shot of them I'll try to take more later.

If you are using a point and shoot cheapie I've had good luck with holding the camera back 2x-3x as far away and using the zoom to get clear shots.

You should be able to buy just a general single LED light and solder it in place.

What he said. Most times you need to keep the camera at least 15-24" away from the subject being photographed.

It focused on the background, instead of what you wanted it to.

Holding the camera further away will help that too!

Here is about the limit of my cheapie camera for up close detail....

Hold it back further and zoom in. Then take the picture in REALLY high resolution and crop it down in photoshop to a smaller size before you upload it.

Bright white would look great as a replacement especially in the ash tray area.

Ok, here's some better one's. The first one is without any light on, it kind of blurred because of the flash but you can still everything. The second one is clear as day and it's with the light on. Any ideas?

lol! we are straying from the topic at hand here. I know this has been talked about quite a few times, but there must be some way to change these colors. I think im going to tear into the lighting of my car tomorrow and bring them to a few autopart stores and a local lighting shop.. see if I cant figure out any replacement bulbs for everyone

TDUB, I know I have seen lights like that before, just cant put my finger on where Ive seen them... remote control cars maybe???

Something like that. It's square with like wire tape around it to filter out the light on one end. It's a normal wire wired into that transistor looking thing on the one end and the long metal piece on the other running into the led.

do you have a tv remote control around you?? Does it display a color when when you press the button? :D open it up.. you may be a little suprised (tho its not square, it should work all the same with a little adjusting)

aah. Well that sucks! lol!! My directv lights up blue, and it has the two prong... Im almost 100% positive it would work as a replacment. Also the controller has 4 of them in it.

You guys are silly. I happen to love LEDs and have been playing around with them for years! The one you keep taking pictures of is a standard LED and that "transistor" looking thing on one of the leads is actually a resistor. Every LED has at least two leads coming out of it, one is positive and one is negative. The resistor drops the voltage from 12v to the 2-3v the LED needs to run, otherwise it would burn itself out very quickly. Also the shape doesn't really matter it is just the shape of the plastic housing. You can find all kinds of LED's online on Ebay just be careful because sometimes you get what you pay for.

Here is an auction for 1000 white LED's. If you buy a lot like this you can usually get them for about $.10 each. It has the mcd's which is the brightness, around 10k is fine, and also the forward voltage range. This seller is even nice enough to include the resistors for whatever voltage you need!

FYI: The reason all of these LED's are green is because they were the cheapest to produce because of the elements need for the color.

Anybody know what size resistors we need for the interior lights (overheads, under dash, glove box)? Or does that depend on what type of bulb used?
