Redoing Mark VII Exhaust

I am going to be redoing my exhaust soon as the previous owner changed the duals to a single. Y from the cats to on muffler and a 2" tail. The VII acts like it needs to breathe.

What mufflers give the best sound and increase HP to a Mark VII?

I am not looking for the loud roar, but a slight rumble saying this car does have something under the hood would be nice.

Also it would need to be affordable. Good system at a reaonable price.

One peeve I have are all those Ricers and their canisters buzing down the road or pealing from a stop.

If I put it this way - I like the sound of a new harley with the factory baffles they have the sound of power but yet they are subtle. They have a lope but not the loud roar.

I didn't - and once I realized that the Mark VII originally had duals I wondered the same thing. Explains some of the sluggishness she has.

I've been thinking about how I should go about things. Right now I am a little strapped for getting toys for the car cash. (I have 2 girls turning 16 one in October and one in November also my son turns 18 in February and graduates in May I hope.

I've thought about just getting a better muffler for the time being until spring or next summer but I am going to go price putting the system back to a dual first.

Ask Lincoln, they did it. The CFI engines did not have duals, then had a y-pipe stock. It really isn't a big deal, as you won't be able to squeeze much more power out of that engine with an exhaust, anyway. It's only for sound, and remember that these cars were marketed for people that weren't too keen on loud exhaust. ;)

So you are saying that my '85 Mark VII came with the "Y" coming off the cats flowing into one muffler?

Hmmm,

If this is so, then is it worth the money to go to duals? Would there be any change other than the apperence of having duals?

I've been driving this baby pretty much lately - Love it!!!

It's performance seems to have improved with driving - It had been laid up for a year.

What suggestions do any of you have? What flowmaster is better? 40 or 50?

Or do you have any other muffler suggestions, remember I don't want real load but a little rumble is fine.

Also I don't want to sound like all I have is a muffler (Typical Ricer Style - Eclipse with a canisters "Sounds hot with no power") - I want the sound to fit My '85 Mark VII, and have some distinction.
 
I thought just 84' came with single. But it would make sence since 85' is carb still. . . It won't make a difference. Find a Flowmaster muffler that has one in two out. Then you can have duals. Thats what my plans are for the 84' LSC. Not for power. For the even look in the rear. Just looks :q:q:q:qty with a single exhaust system!

Mark's were never carb'd. And yes, as the engine remained the same between 1984 and 1985, the exhaust also remained the same.

Mespock, the only major plus to going to a dual setup is sound. There will be a very minor increase in power, which will probably be unnoticable. But sound will improve. You might try running the car without a muffler and see how it sounds. It will be loud, but if you like the sound it makes, then a free flowing muffler will just tone it down a bit. That way you won't spend the extra money for duals if you don't need to.
