This is a Double DIN installation for 2000-2002 Lincoln LS.
This system uses the factory tweeters in the console and the factory subwoofer system.
Note: For best results the rear Subwoofer upgrade has to be performed 2000-2001 (See "Subwoofer Upgrade 2000-2001" Post) and the correct factory speakers have to be installed (See "Best Factory Speaker & Water Drains" Post). A surge capacitor is recommended for the double DIN head unit. If you LS does not have factory tweeters, ones can be obtained from a salvage vehicle, trace out hole shape on a piece of paper, cut holes in your console, install speakers and snap in the speaker covers. If you car does not have a subwoofer system, get one out of a salvage LS the wiring is already there, just add a connector to the radio.
This results in a super clean, power sound system that you will have to hear to believe. RolinLS has heard this system in Mr. Howie's Silver Lincoln LS.

3) Turn ignition off & remove key.
4) Push the ashtray in and hold in. While holding the ashtray inward, put fingers underneath ashtray surround panel and remove surround panel.
5) Using a 7mm socket, remove the two screws on either side of the ashtray.
6) Pull ashtray out approx. 2.5 inches. If removed any further damage to ashtray wires may occur.
7) Using a pry tool remove upper air-conditioning vent by prying on both sides evenly.
8) Tilt AC outlet upward and remove the grey connecter if car is equipped with message center buttons.
9) With an 8 MM socket remove 2 upper and lower mounting screws that hold radio and climate control system into dash. Be sure not to drop the lower mounting screws into consol. Hold washer with your finger to prevent screw from falling inside the console.
10) Drape Towel over consol and shifter to prevent scratching trim and shifter while removing radio/climate control assembly. Remove radio and climate control assembly.
11) Lay radio/climate control assembly on its side and remove the 4 Phillips screws that hold the climate control head in place. Do not drop the climate control module.
12) Remove the 6 screws that hold the radio in place with a 4mm socket.
13) Install the climate control module to the Metra side brackets. Line up the two pins highlighted with white paint and tighten the Phillips screws.
14) Line up the two plastic pins in the climate control with the two holes in the Metra radio faceplate adapter (highlighted with white paint).
15) Install the double DIN Receiver line up with screw holes in the metra mounting plates while keeping the face plate flush. Tighten the Phillips radio mounting screws. (Metra supplies 3 per side. Two additional screws may by obtained for more secure mounting, four per side).
16) An alternate method is to reuse the metal mounting brackets. Use the Metra mount plates as a template to mark new mounting screw holes in the steel plates. Slot the holes after drilling to allow for adjustment.
17) After installing radio/climate control brackets and faceplate, install connectors and wires for Reverse sense and Parking Brake switch safety wire.
18) Connect the Wire harness adapter wires to the Double DIN radio wires.
19) Connect the ASWC white/green wire to cavity/pin #14 of Black Connector C240a. The #14 pin is the lower right corner pin as you look at the connector. (Using a modified connector from the FWH600 kit will fit the factory connector for the steering wheel control to make a cleaner installation.)*Connect Red AXWC wire to ACC red wire of harness adapter. Connect Black ASWC wire to black ground wire of harness adapter. Connect brown ASWC wire to blue/yellow steering wheel remote input wire (Kenwood units). Before making a permanent connection install a 12K ohm resister between the brown ASWC wire and the blue/yellow wire.
a. *To modify the connector from the FWH600 kit, take the wires out of the large square connector shell. Use a “T” pin to release the clip to remove the connectors. Install one wire in the right lower corner (with the front of the connector facing away from you) to match up with pin #14. Connect this wire to the Blue/Yellow wire of the AWSC.
20) Lift the front of the center console top plate on each side of the shifter (with your fingers) and lift up from the console. Be sure to remove the connector to the traction control/ATS switch before completely removing console top plate.
21) Route the rear camera RCA cable and the rear camera power wire though the console on the left side away from the shift linkage and parking brake mechanism. Route cable and wire under the metal bracket and under the ashtray mounting plate. Use a hook tool to facilitate wire routing.
22) To program the ASWC to a Kenwood radio, turn ignition key to accessory position with the 12K resistor mounted between the brown and the Kenwood remote (blue/yellow) wire. Wait until the red LED stops flashing. Remove 12k resistor and make a permanent connection at the brown wire to the blue/yellow wire. Test steering wheel controls, they should work properly now.
23) Place double DIN unit on the rag at shifter/console area, connect the double DIN unit but do not install in dash.
24) On the 00-02 Lincoln LS the Orange Illumination wire will not be active on the wire harness adapter. The double DIN radio illumination wire will have to be connected to the Blue/Orange wire on the message center buttons grey connector that was disconnected in step 8.
25) Connect parking brake sense wire to parking brake switch located just under the parking brake boot. Console does not have to be removed to gain access. Connect to wire on install on connector.
26) Connecting the factory front tweeters to the aftermarket double DIN system will require finding the Right and Left input wiring to the factory front amplifier mounted under the steering wheel/dash area (has off white plastic with aluminum heat sink 4” X 2.25” in size). Connect two RCA cables R & L from the aftermarket radio Front RCA output terminals. Disconnect green connector from the front amplifier and access the wires that go into pin 1 (Left channel + ) and pin 2 (Right channel +) and pin 3 ground for both channels. Cut all three wires two inches away from green connector and connect the RCA Right (red) wire to connector side grey wire, connect RCA cable Left (+) white wire to connector side white wire. Connect both RCA cable shield grounds to the bare wire from pin 3 of green connector. Insulate all 3 wires then reconnect to amplifier. After connecting turn on radio and make sure that the speaker in the left side of the console is Right channel and the speaker in the right side of the console is Left channel.
27) Installing Navigation add on unit. 2001 & 2002 remove the glove box and mount the navigation module to the top of the glove box right behind the latch opening. This makes SD car updates easy just by opening the glove box.
28) Connect the ACC wire (red) to ACC feed either behind the radio or at the fuse box in the R side kick panel. Connect the yellow wire to a (+) 12V at all times either behind the radio or at the fuse box in the right side kick panel.
29) Install a “reboot” round lighted (LED) switch next to the valet switch in the glove box liner. Connect the Red power circuit from the ACC to one terminal of the switch. Connect the red wire to the Navigation unit to the other terminal of the switch. Connect the black ground wire from the Nav. unit to a chassis ground. Ground the lighted switch to the chassis (can use same spot). This switch is for rebooting the Nav. unit if it ever locks up.
30) Remove the defrost grille and cut a square hole with a dremel tool that matches up with the antenna. The supplied metal plate will have to be trimmed to fit next to the headlamp light sensor. The double sided sticky tape will hold the antenna to the defrost trim plate.
31) Route antenna wire under the defrost trim plate to the module area by the glove box. Reinstall the defrost trim plate. Route the interface cable to the radio and plug into the back of the radio.
32) For 2000-2001, Perform the Subwoofer amp upgrade and remount the amplifier in the fender.
33) For 2002 Lincoln LS purchase the amp for 2001 Lincoln LS. The 2002 uses the pickup truck amp (Lincoln Blackwood truck) and it will make a loud pop if used on this system. The older style amp used on 2001 LS, Town car and other Ford product. This amp has more power and does not pop when turned on. Can be mounted under the deck in same location as the original amp and same connectors will fit the amp.
