I have just recently purchased a '97 Conti. When I got it the previous owner told me that he was not sure why the car would sometime overheat. It seems to be escallated when the A/C is running. The cooling fans work just fine. I have noticed that if the tempature is in the 80's (which in Texas is not very often) or if it is raining the A/C can run without the car overheating. Additionally, the heater works sometimes and at other times it does not. He has had the heater core replaced at a local F/L/M dealer to no avail. I am mechanically inclined and have worked on all my cars in the past. Here are my questions:
1. What *could* be cause of the overheating, and why?
2. Where is the thermostat on this vehicle? (4.6 V8 front wheel drive)
3. Why would the car overheat more rapidly if the A/C is running?
4. What are the chances that it could be a water pump problem, and what is the cost associated with replacing it?
Thanks
