I want to know what was the fastest Chrysler,Ford,GM,AMC muscle car. What car was the companies fastest muscle car in general quarter mile, 0-60, top speed, the works. Also Is It true that you could order a 67-68 shelby mustang with a 427 or a 428 with a paxton supercharger, If so is there any still around. One more Is It true in late 69 u could order a camaro with a 454. Theres alot of rumours I hear about stuff like this would appreciate feedback and here some other stories u have heard about secret options in muscle cars. Thanks...

I'd have to say the cobra 427. There's not many cars back then (stock) that were as powerful and as lite as the cobra. These were the specs I found on the '66.

Top Speed 265.5 kph / 165 mph
0 - 60 mph 4.2 sec.
0 - quarter mile 12.7 sec. @ 112.7 mph
0 - 100 mph 10.3 sec.
Lateral Acceleration 1.04g
EPA City/Hwy 6/9 MPG

Wow!!!!!! 425,000 thats awesome. I know the mustang gt 428 cj was fast idk it was the fastest production. I had a old issue of mustang monthly that had the 68 428 cj as th main topic they said it was fast they raced one against a yenko the yenko one but yenkos are not factory at all, It still was close race what the mustang prob was a hard time getting those tires to stop spining and grip, I would luv to have one and put a detroit locker on it then hold on for my life, lol . Now a shelby gt 428 cj, what is that a shelby gt500kr what were they called?

Wasn't it the Cuda that holds the fastest 1/4 time?

Man...I feel old now....I remember these cars running around.

Anyway, the 440 'Cuda was pretty hot, would run high 13's around 100 MPH pretty consistantly, the Hemi version might beat it if it was driven perfectly, but it had two 4-barrel carbs, would run on the primary of the rear carb under light throttle, then as you opened up the linkage, the front carb would open the primary, then, if you pushed it harder, BOTH carbs would open up the secondaries at the same time. If you did not balance it properly, you would either bog pretty badly or liquify the rear tires. Real hard to drive quickly.

Cobra's were rare, I never, ever saw one on the street. Chrysler/Plymouth really were the ticket for muscle car power. Relatively light with the 440 engines available in a lot of platforms. The '70 GM cars did pretty good. Chevelle with an L78 or an LS6 was about the fastest Chevy. Buick had unbelievable results from the 455 GS cars, Oldsmobile did slightly worse as they had a strange bore/stroke ratio, neither built for torque or horsepower, sorta a mix of the two instead of concentrating on one or the other, never really worked that well. Ford had a knack for taking excellant engine specs and getting really, really crappy results from them. Aside from the 429 CJ engines, any Ford would pretty much get eaten alive on the street.

The AMC 390 cars did very well, but also rare. They were very light.

I would put the LS5/LS6 Chevelle's on top, then the GS Buick's, then the Mopars, then the AMC cars. Most of the 'muscle' cars struggled to get in the high 90's as a trap speed. The good old days weren't that good.

Thanks pops, lol. Those cobras that u never seen were fast from what i heard, also the 390 mustangs I was told were fast 2 I bet u seen the movie bullit no special effects there, what was it racing again? lol. My uncle told me from his experience that the plymouths were the best of the bunch he had a 69 road runner 440 six pack tuned with super high octane did qrt in low 12s and smoked hemis he said the six pack was actually faster then the hemis and it was cheaper, wish that part was still around now cheap power and cheap gas, cheap to todays standards atleast, lol. thanks for your knowledge...
