what gets these beasts down the track the fastest? o/d on, off, shifting manually, just flooring it? i'm asking because im sure you guys already know. also it's a virgin 93, and i want a 4.10 bad, real bad. how do i re-calibrate the speedo?

spray it ...lol
i leave off idle , when i load the converter up it just spins really bad
od off , trac control off , manual shift into second at somewhere around 6000
i go through the traps in second at about 5800 with 3.08 gear
also i do the smallest burnout i can , if i can get through the bleach box with out touching the water , i just do a dry hop with no burn out , that is with 225/60 16 tires
i've had my car about 3 weeks and have made 25-30 passes on it , this seems to be the best way for me to get it down the track in natrually aspirated form

do you NEED to man shift? when i floor it, and keep it floored, i shift at 6250@bt

mine starts to shift around 6100 or 6200 then just kind of slides in after a second or two , after bouncing off of the limiter for a second or two
so i shift it manually, i'm going to work on the trans next week

I suggest you do a JMOD or add a shift kit to your trans. No more slipping into gears, but head snapping and tire chirping. I love the way my car shifts now with the Baumann Shift kit. No more hunting for gears. You KNOW when they are coming. LOL.

Damn, I can't wait to hit up the track. I need to get a few more runs before this warm weather starts to come.

With your shift kit, it'll chirp 2nd automatically shifting? My trans will only chirp manually shifting, shifts real hard like this. In auto it is really sluggish, and shifts at around 5800-5900 I'd say. I try not to manually shift to often because it seems VERY hard on the trans. Don't want to install Another trans in one year. :(

with my shift kit, it doesnt chirp in drive, it gets sideways. I also sometimes hit the rev limiter, I guess I need a chip because the trans cant keep up with the 4.10s

I use, live and swear by the Baumann Engineering shift kit installed in ALL our bulletproof 4R70W's. Here my car on a VHT treated track with 275/40's SLAMMING second gear with a bone stock engine, all bolt-on's.

It chirps harder as you increase the throttle in drive.

Manually shifting these cars without a chip will cost you a minimum of 1-2 tenths.

A shift kit is probably not the smartest thing to do on a stock 4r70w though, right? But on the other hand quicker shifts are a lot better for the trans, than slow, sloppy shifts. I'm at a loss on this one.

As for losing .1-.2 manually shifting without a chip, I'd bet if I let MY auto do all the work I'd be losing close to a .5 second. Of course this is all without a chip which will change in the future.

So, Geno, are you saying DO NOT manually shift if you DO NOT have a chip ?
I may have read it wrong, just wondering. How should one go about in a Mark, pretty much stock, in the quarter mile. OD off, TC off, Launch off idle.
I never attempted running in D, and always ran the quarter mile manually.

With the Baumann shift kit in Drive, I chirp the tires and at times go sideways a bit, with TC and OD on. Manually shifting, OD and TC off, the car slams into second gear. Very FIRM and quick shifts. Also if at any times the car goes sideways a tad bit from the shift, the car hooks up and is straight in a matter of half a second. Very nice addition to the car.

No chip, manual shift.

Yawn... did someone say something 'bout slamming second with a Baumann ? :steering

I love it !

No he did not break anything, but he tore that 'Stang a new a$$hole. :Beer

Also, what was your R/T on that run. Looks like u were sleepin' a bit, but I may be wrong. Do you usually leave at the 3rd yellow ?

I cut killer lights, that was the end of the day and Walt and I were taking turns to see how long we could spin them for. That was maybe the 30th run of the day that day.

What 3rd yellow?

LOL! Yeah, my timing was all off. Before I prestaged, a track official had crossed the lights with the mop and lit up the stage lights just as I was screaming up to the line from the burnout box. It was the first run at the track for me that day and I actually thought I overshot the line! Being Test and Tune, I even casually backed up and re-approached the line. By then I looked at the opponent and realized I wasn't even close. I prestaged, the other lane staged, I staged, and BOOM(John Madden impression) the tree came down. Not being really ready my RT was an awful .5xx on a 0.00 light. The rest of the runs that day were RTs of 0.09x to 0.1xx.

I wasn't asleep, just mentally out of sync. LOL! :slam
