I recently noticed a fair amount of pooled water in the trunk of my 2004 LS down below the spare tire so pulled the tire out and dried everything up- then traced one of the rear drain hoses (passenger side close to gas tank door) that had come loose. Reattached it to the drain spout in the rear fender and checked the driver side which was still attached.

Thought I'd be fine going forward after that fix. Well, it's rained for about 3 days straight and the car was mostly sitting in the driveway except for a couple short trips, and I take a look last night and there's water sitting in there again. The carpet in the trunk (covering the spare tire area and the sides seemed dry.

Am I missing hidden water entry points (especially when the car is just sitting there and water drain off shouldn't be too difficult)?

I've had that happen once to my 06. Went out of town for a month, came back to a mini aquarium (spare well was half full of water) and a dead battery (audio fuse attached to positive term was soaking in the water).

Mine was doing that, water was migrating under the trunk lip seal. I pulled the seal off, put silicone into the crevice in the seal and reinstalled. No problems since. You might also check to see that the battery vent tube hasn't come off.

I am having the same exact problem with my 2002!!!

I get a towel and just soak up all the water.

The problem is that is has been raining every other day here in Chicago.

I had the same problem on my 2005. Quite a bit of water was collecting on the battery side & I would completely soak it all up only to find more water a week or two later after some good rainstorms. Eventually I took off the trunk seal, cleaned the inner surface out with a rag & re-installed it. No problems since.

I only found water in the spare tire well once with my '04, when I pickup the car used with 23K miles at the dealership in the dead of winter. It is parked outside mostly year round and I haven't had any water in the spare tire well since. That is even with the crazy rainy month we just had with over 13" in four weeks - still dry.

there has really been a rash of leaking trunk seals going around lately (seems like a new one each week...)

I wonder if the seals only have a little longer life than the cooling system?

Look like it was the loose drain hose on the passenger side. After everything dried up I haven't seen any more water in there since.
