So, I'm ready to order the jag replacement from rockauto. Think I should replace the tstat too? And if so, looks like the Motorcraft one from rockauto does not include the seals. Stay with motorcraft and buy seals additional?

Alsom the LS has 175K on it right now, and is showing a couple spots where it's going to rust soon. Don't want to put more money into it than I need to.

Its one of those things where you have to decide will it be too much work to go back later or not... For me it would be, so I'd do it now... I hate tearing into the same thing twice!

Good luck

Yeah, I suppose. I'm just thinking "what could possibly be wrong with the tstat?" And thinking I probably don't have to spend the extra $20. I'm already spending the $28 to get the housing/coolant tree second day.

I'd go for the t-stat, too. It's another 30 bucks or something, right?

If the rust isn't extensive, use some rust reformer on it. I have a little ding just above my windshield where a golf ball hit the car. It was starting to rust in the Georgia humidity, so I dabbed some on the spot with q-tip and it stopped the rust from spreading.

The rust is on the trunk lid around the surround and keyhole. And it's bubbling/rusting near the weatherstripping right by the rear driver's wheel well. Have to open the door to see it, but yeah.

I'll just order the tstat in town somewhere. Rockauto wants a lot to ship it second day.

Just ordered the part next day express. $91.xx total. $15 for tstat. I paid more for the shipping only because I need the car this weekend. Kinda sucked for $43 in shipping, but whatever.

No jag part. Dealer had the plastic part for $81.xx, but had to order it as well, and wouldn't see it until tomorrow.

You'll be happy you order the t-stat because if you didn't the old one would go out for sure. Speaking of rust I was jacking up the left rear of the LS the other day and the jack point gave out collapsed. It's completely rusted out, yay!

I'm so glad that we don't have to deal with road salt down here.

Heppened to me this spring. Passenger side rear. Either I get a new piece welded in, or the car will be parked come winter.

luckily all of our city's are going broke around here and cant afford to throw salt any more.

down side is that you dont see nearly as many plow trucks either

then again, because of global warming, it only snowed hard enough to need real plow work about three times last year, so who needs plow trucks anyway!

Well, it's so nice that a lot of places have changed out salt for stone. Stone. Throwing stone onto the road...

Driver rear jack point for me with 177K. I use large flat pieces of wood now to distribute the weight. That, and stay the F away from it. Keep my head out from under it until the jackstand is underneath. Too bad they didnt use some aluminum there, a heavier gauge version of what is used in the bumpers. That stuff is strong as hell. It seems all you need is one idiot to jack the car up wrong, bend the metal and crack the paint, and then you're done.

The trunk bubbling is common. I know the hood is aluminum and I think the trunk is too so its not as serious an issue as the rocker panels are.

Mine has at least one more winter in its future though :( I have found that spraying trouble spots with Outboard engine fogger works great at preventing rust in prone areas. It dries with a nice waxy coating and prevents moisture from collecting.

Lol yup. I have always gotten a car wash that includes an under carriage wash twice a month in winter with my cars, except for last year. Crazy how little snow we got. Barely used my winter coat

What's "road salt"? Does it make the roads taste better for cyclists? Is there a corresponding road pepper?

Also, what is "snow"?

road salt = that stuff we find on the beach roads (along with mud and casinos) for a few days after hurricanes.

snow = I think that slang for some sort of drug.

Blow/Yayo/Powder/White Girl

All mean cocaine...well the cut down stuff that gets into the states which is far from pure.

And only reason i know is because im pursuing a career with law enforcement never touched the stuff dont care to.

No f*cking 8mm crow foot wrench anywhere in town.

Have to order one from Snap-On methinks. $17 a pop.

But I don't need any of the other ones. Honestly, I would've just had my mechanic do this for me, but the building he was renting got foreclosed on, so he was forced out, and is now "between shops". I left him a message, hoping he'll let me borrow his set of crowfoot wrenches.
