I've done some searching but I am still confused. I can't tell if some threads are talking about the wiring for a gen 1 or gen 2.

I need information for adding an Infinity Basslink to a stock '97 JBL system.
Which wires are carrying audio from the head unit to the amp?
I want to tap into these and run them directly to the Basslink without using an RCA converter.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Terry works much better then the search function. I think he should be on the payroll.

Apparently some don't know how to work the damn thing. I figure I may as well click it for them instead of starting an argument lol. In reality, it shouldn't even take a search for what he wanted to know. Hell, call Infinity customer service and ask them how to do it. Use Google because it does answer a lot more than people know if they would just click the sh!t.

that link talks about running the wires from behind the stereo, not from tapping in to where the headunit connects to the amp in the trunk like i asked. i obviously found that link already by searching.
im looking for a pin out for wires in the trunk coming from the headunit.

I and many others would suggest tapping in from behind the unit and running RCA's to the rear.

why is running the rca's preferred?

Because you're getting the sound directly from the back of the deck. You can tap into a left or right rear before it goes into the amp but the wire color between the front and rear could be different colors. I would also use the "twisted style" RCA cables. I would run the remote wire with them too.

Honestly, I would jerk all of that stuff out and rewire the entire stereo system and put something good in there. Four new 5X7's and a 10" or two in the trunk. That's just me though.

glad i kept searching around, i found out what you posted is the wiring for the tweeters. not what i was looking for

That attitude is going to get you nowhere. Rewire the whole thing, it's a POS sound system to begin with, problem solved.

It's very easy to rewire the whole car. You"ll be happier in the long run. But if you're just going to run Basslink, then just get a line out converter, RCA jacks and you're good to go.

Thanks for your help, exactly the info that I don't need. Every thread here says the same thing.

Why is doing things different from each other so frowned upon on this board??

I'm just looking to add the subwoofer. I'm happy with how the stock system sounds generally, I'm not going to buy a new headunit and speakers and amp and rewire the whole thing.

Still not what I'm looking to do. The basslink can take speaker or line level inputs. I'm not looking to run a converter to it too.

Did you guys read my first post or just the topic??

~goes to get large spoon~

Take the rear speakers out and tap into the wires from them then run your wire behind the panel and into the trunk then once its in the trunk hook it up to your BassLink. That part is done now hook up power and ground and enjoy your bass and crappy stock system.

~throws away spoon for fear of stupidity rubbing of on me~

Well, what I gathered from your first post is that you done some searching and you're still confused.

You wanted info on how to install a basslink to a stock 97 JBL system. You then asked which wires are carrying the audio from the head unit to the amp.

I provided that info to you and did not frown upon it. Just simply said using RCA's would be best with a converter. Now, if you have "high input" connections to the Basslink, then it would be best to use a line out converter with RCA connections.

I can't tell you how to install one because I never have before. I completely discontinue the Mark VIII stereo wiring and run all new wiring myself. This includes the stereo, amplifiers and speakers. It may have had a decent sound 12 to 15 years ago but for the most part, the stock amp is weak, the inside speakers are most likely dry rotted. It's just a mass produced JBL system back in the day and it's junk. Simply put but not frowning upon what you want to do. I was only trying to show you the wire coloring to look for and connect to. Adding a basslink is something that you probably need because the stock system just doesn't "have it".

I have the schematics at home and I have a basslink
In my 95 and a perfect in my 97 both are run off the to
Amp signal

please post what wires you tapped into on the 97. thanks!

where is everyone running their power wires through the firewall?

I will look at my manual when I get home
I ran my power wire right next to the main harness
Through the same rubber seal

If you tap into the colorsthat nolimit posted you can find them in the
Trunk they will be shielded going to the amp
If you want you can go post amp they are not shielded and you
Can find the colors buy looking at a rear speaker 5x7 not the tweeter

I run a coat hanger from the inside through the rubber
To make a new hole then attach the power wire to it from the outside
And use the hanger as fish tape to pull it through

Where can I look for main harness though?
A picture would be great if possible!
