strutmasters? suspension overhaul

i have a 2000 lincoln ls v8 and i want to completely replace my suspension and i was looking at starting with strutmasters 4 wheel air conversion kit for $600... does any one have this installed and could i see pics? it seems like a good deal but ive heard strutmasters are known for lifting their cars with their systems taking the aggressive look away. i would just like suggestions on if this is worth my money and if not which route i should take. thank you
 
The LS already has an amazing suspension and an air ride suspension is not sporty at all.

Just replace any worn components and get eibachs installed for an aggressive look and more firm but still luxurious ride.
 
word, if your going to adjustable suspension look into a full air ride kit, other wise just go eibachs

but really, you have to invest way too much to get it where its useful. unless you want to lay it out on the floor, get some drop springs and sport shocks and call it a day.
 
its not another air bag suspension its a coil over strut system but you cant raise/lower so thats why i was uneasy about them but ill jus go with shocks n springs then what shocks do you reccommend?
 
Motorcraft oem sport shocks are the best.

The LS suspension is already very well made I think even quik has a full stock suspension except its lowered and he tracks his vehicle.
 
after replacing shocks n springs do i need to replace anything else? i heard i must replace the sway bar or something so im jw...
 
i heard of the strutmasters suspension, i also spoke to one of the guys who works there about a conversion kit for a lincoln mark mviii. he said that this is a replacement for the faulty air ride suspension of the mark viii. he said that it not does not lower your car but it keeps the normal ride height of the car.
 
ya thats why i considered it cuz imma throw sum rims on it after i do all the suspension :q:q:q:q but i want it 2 look low...so is it ok to just replace shocks and springs?
 
i'm confused as to what your goal is.
do you want to go lower? or are just looking for new parts?

no one makes air suspension for the LS.
the options for drop springs and new shocks are well documented here.
many people have 19" "rims" with their drop springs. however, you must carefully check the offset on your wheels to avoid rubbing while lowered. also, talked about often on here.
 
yea jus replace the shocks if they are bad and install some ebiachs to lower the car i guess
 
i want lower but i also want new parts lol like i sed i heard if i dont replace other things along with shocks in springs id be hurting myself in long run... either way my suspension needs some work so im jus lookn at slowly getting and replacing parts i just dont know where to start btw are shthese shocks and springs a DIY? or do i have to go to shop for install?
 
Hello, new to LVC and came across your post. I installed the strut masters kit on my 94 mark viii about two years ago and it is still on there. At the time it was a quick and cheap fix to my air ride issues and it was pretty simple to install. The bad thing about the kit was that it did make the car ride a little higher. And one heck of a rough ride compared to the stock air ride... I have a friend that used a different kit that he found for his 96 mark and it rides much smoother than mine with the strut masters kit. Cant remember where he got it.

For extra two hundred more you can have all new Motorcraft springs and shcoks in all corners. I don't know why you would want unreliable air suspension in the car that handles beatifully.

You will compeletely destroy the handling characteristics that the LS has by putting air suspension in it. Just for the hell of it, go carve a corner with a town car and see if you still want air suspenion.

i already stated id like to just purchase the shocks and springs instead but im wondering 1) where to find them 2) is it a DIY or will i have to take it into a shop? 3) should i buy anything else along with it? (sway bar bushings ball joints etc...) im just not sure which components i should be replacing i just know it needs done im sittn at 140k thanks for everyones input so far
 
Springs, Shocks, maybe bushings, tie-rod ends,

unfortunately the stiffer 'euro' version shocks are not availabe anymore, so OE Sport is the only option. You can get Leeda to make you a custom set of coilovers - $600 each.

I do play with adding spring-stiffeners as 'needed'

See if Eddie has them at American Air Suspension ... click the link in my sig. If not Eddie will know where to get them.
 
checked that site with no luck on anything ls related anyone else know where to purchase the sport shocks?
 
if you dont know what your doing, i wouldnt recommend messing with it... its not a tough job, but you need to be careful, unless you want a spring to the face.

I would start with the springs and shocks. It does all of the obsorbing, so even if you replaced other suspension parts, they would start taking a lot of beating and you don't want that.

I would contact either Max or Rockauto. You can pick it all up at the local dealership, so that's another option, just might cost a little more.

I personally don't think it's that hard of job to do - especially if you can purchase shocks/springs already assembled. Just have to unbolt few little things that may get in the way of pulling the factory struts out and the new ones in.

Anyone know of a quality spring compressor? I don't mean the jack-screw and hook type.
 
i've seen some nice wall mount types that use a hydrolic pump to compress.... not sure where you could find it though.... im sure you can rent one at a local parts store.
