I did this conversion recently and there's some things to beware.

One, if you buy from eBay sellers, Strutmasters will not talk to
you. They demand a direct invoice number on their tech support
line. The instructions that come from the eBay seller we bought
from, are a bad joke - wrong info, no pictures where it counts,
etc. Strutmasters asserted their instructions are much better,
but of course I don't get to see, to verify.

And it's not like these clowns didn't get paid - the springs have
Strutmasters' logo on them, the kit is the same one they sell
and evidently they're just bummed about distributors taking a
cut, and choose to take it out on the customer.

Two, the rear portion of the kit is just wrong. I had to go get
proper bolts to attach the "pucks" to the mounting plates, the
skinny bolts provided to mount the puck and plate would require
the puck to be skewed on the plate such that the spring could not
sit down flush between puck & keeper tangs. The upper mount
is kind of a joke, big (but not big enough) flat washers slopping
around in the cutout "V" with only clamping friction to keep them
there. The bit of hollow tube provided to locate the plate on the
control arm is a 3/4" ID (or so) held by a 5/16" bolt, muy sloppy.
I fixed this (somewhat) by stacking washers and nuts inside the
tubes.

Three, the rake is not pretty - about an inch low in the rear, and
that's unladen. I'm going to have to get some air shocks and
hopefully there are any, for this vehicle. That, or pull off the
fronts and cut half a coil.

I'd recommend another option for spring conversions if I knew of
one. Just because of the p!ss-poor attitude, if not the quality and
completeness issues.

its too bad you didnt read any of the horror stories associated before you purchased this kit. other found their way back to air springs, and junked the after coil conversions. then a few have taken it as a challenge and tried to fight thru the conversion, and better what they have. what you have mentioned has come up a time or two on FordvsChevy, and LincolnsonLine. hopefully youre one of those who will push thru and not have to throw good money after bad.

there are other options to the SM kit; eibach or vogtland springs and some guys like Tokico shocks. This is the one topic that has been covered infinitely on any Mark VIII forum. Search

i have had air, and now have coils on both my marks...if I had a money tree, I'd have air now. One of my cars has a strutmaster kit from American Air Suspension (Eddie). I have no regrets: rides fine and the vendor is a class act.
I don't know what you mean by 'pucks'...I presume the rubber isolators that sit on the rear coils?
the other car has a 1.5 lowered kit which I haven't driven much yet- redoing front suspension currently, but I think it will be fine
The sound of the compressor didn't bother me until it was gone. It's always nice walking out to my car knowing it won't be slammed and my wallet will be emptied again

Funny, I had great success with their kits for the front and rear of Mark 7.
