I've read the past threads about the STS turbo, but did anyone actually ever finish an install on their LS? I started thinking about this again as I saw them on a show from SEMA this year & them talking about how it can be used on any vehicle front or rear install. So did anyone on here actually finish their install? I believe there was 2 or 3 on here that had bought a setup so I'm very curious how it worked out?

Here's a link to their site for those that aren't familiar with this product.

ILLS is (or was) a STS dealer and used his knowledge of their kits to build his own version. I believe he did 3 kits - Cameron (blew up 4 days after tuning), Steve (never really got it working) and his own.

Cam's and Steve's kits are still for sale (I believe). Someone here bought ILLS' - but haven't heard much since then.

Didn't bmxlsxxx (or whatever his name is) have a project going on?

Found the thread.. It's here..

His name is XxbmxlsxX

I remember that thread & then it just died off...

I'm kinda surprised that nobody with an LS has tried this yet as everything I have seen & read seems to suggest this really works & eliminates all the headaches that come with having to do all the custom work others have done to add turbo to their LS. I've been watching a lot of videos & there are l lot of different types of vehicles that have this & get results...

Ills and Steve both had up and running rear mounted systems. Search youtube for the videos. Steve wants $3K IIRC

I tried finding an LS on youtube with it, but couldn't find one in action. Also I believe you can get the entire setup brand new so 3K seems kinda high, but I may be wrong...

But you would have to do all the fab work.. Which could be pricey if your not doing it yourself..

From what I've seen & from what they say there doesn't seem to be a lot of fab work that really needs to be done. That's one of their main selling points ease of installation & no need for any major modifications or changes to the vehicle internals & all.

Isn't rocket ILLS? There was someone with the user name rocket on here too and it's the same name on that turbo vid. I always thought it was ILLS

Turbo

I believe you'll pay around six grand if you go and buy a kit from STS. And more to have it installed.

The kits sold by IlLS were all single turbo set-ups with the turbo mounted in the location of the driver's side muffler. And so far as I know, IlLS never turned the boost up beyond a couple of pounds.

FWIW, I'll be using a pair of turbos on my Maxton project. If you have welding skills and equipment sufficient to build your own exhaust system, there's no reason to NOT do it yourself. But you do have to have the space, skill, and equipment.

There was a thread in the MkVIII HP area a few months ago, suggesting the use of plastic water pipe for creating the cold side. Then all you'd have to have is a pile of plastic pipe, a hacksaw, and a can of glue. It might work just fine as a finished installation. On the other hand, it probably would work just fine at least for mock-up and would surely hold for low boost applications and tuning. Then build your final cold side from stainless exhaust pipe or aluminum tubing.

And, as always, see the 'Land Speed LS' thread in the HP section.

Well according to them $1995 for single turbo setup & $2995 for twin turbo setup on their universal kit.

Thats probably not including a turbocharger(s). If they do include one for $2K I think a lot more people would have gone that route already, dont you?

Not seeing where it says that LS has an STS turbo on it? He says it's some custom system he designed. I'm looking for one with the STS turbo in the link I provided.

The kit you would be getting is "Universal" or for lack of better terms, you customize it.

is it worth it to toss all this money up if your not gonna get any real power i mean if there only running a couple pounds of boost its not worth i wanna see a dyno run and a track run with some decent results before i drop in 3-5k on a turbo setup that might not even give that much power

that is ture once it is an actually fitted kit - so if you buy the kit for a Gen5 corvette - it bolts into place in an afternoon. There is no kit for an LS, so it takes fab work to fit, pipe and weld it all together. this is still easier than trying to build the bracketing and relocating things trying to fit a turbo under the hood.

and $6k is about the standard price for a kit.

I have been quoted at 8K when I called around about a month ago

I said screw that and am about ready to give up on this car

Unless they're lying to me the prices I posted include the turbo... Plus I just watched these guys on TV say this stuff & also stress that these kits work on ANY car & even someone with a limited mechanical backround can install their unit. These guys could be full of total crap, but I don't know.

as quick mentioned, the universal kit will need a ton of work (big $$$ if your not doing the welding and the install yourself)

then you will need to acquire all the misc parts that are not universal, fuel pump, injectors, tuning device, somebody to tune it...

as far as universal kits you could always buy the $400 universal kit from Ebay.

I know of 2 Hondas, a DSM and a small block Chevy that are turbocharged, all from Ebay "kits". Welds, fitment and some other odds and end werent the best but theyre damn good starting points. The LS one was what, $900?
