Spare Tire

how many people have replaced their spare with an old tire? I'm gonna need 4 new tires soon, and was thinking about using one of my take offs as the spare since the spare is a temp, only 50 mph or whatever. Is this ok or a bad idea for some reason?

i doubt the skinny rim will accept it.

its a full size spare so the replacement tire will be the same size....

I know that the spare is a full size (as in rim diameter and tire diameter) but I don't think it is the same width as the standard rims.

The narrower rim probably cannot take the standard with tire.

My '01 was a skinny. I bought an extra alloy on eBay for like $30 shipped. Keep your eyes open!

Some cars came with the full size spare (I think it was the sport model with a black alloy rim, like mine) and some the donut. I doubt you be able to sqeeze a full size tire on a donut.

I have a sport with the 'full' size spare.
Trust me its not as wide as the regular rim.

It is as tall, but not as wide.

So you got a full size 16" (or 17") rim and typical tire to fit in the spare tire compartment with the tools and jack? I would really like to get rid of the 'skinny' in the truck but didnt want to buy a new wheel/tire if it didnt fit.

I haven't put a tire on it yet, but the wheel fit in the spare tire well just fine depth-wise with no tire on it. Others on here have told me that there would be no trouble with it. (I asked before I bought the wheel.) And after putting the wheel in there when I got it to check, it looks like it will be fine to me.

Next time I pull a wheel off, (this weekend to replace the wheel bearing) I'll put it in there to verify that it will be ok with a tire and let you know.
