Rediculous Depreciation..!!

I went to a dealership to see if i would have been able to get into a 04 maxima just because it had alot less miles than my ls (89000) and i checked my kbb value about 2 months ago and it way 9800 so i figures i would only be like 2-3 gran in the hold.. soo.. to my surprise the guy ran the value of of the car today and it was 7200.. i couldn`t believe it .. so now i`m about 5 gran in the hole.. crazy .. so now i gotta start playin catchup with my loan.. lol. whata thing.. i think this will be my last american car purchase.. but i still love my ls. :(
 
Yea it sucks but every car has this problem, but our cars or anything else american is rediculous. I hate how dealers only look at books for the trade in price, I had one dealer never even look at the car, they just got the miles and vin and llooked at a book and said, this is what we well give you. I said they need to go out there and look over the car, it is worth more than that. They got mad at me and I about went off but said forget it I do not want anything you have anyway nor do I want to deal w/ a place that won't look over my excellent car.

But dealers make money by ripping you off like that, its how they do things and it well never change.
 
Dude...the dealership will ALWAYS quote you the lowest price. They are as business.

You get the most money by selling it yourself to a private buyer.

So, what you're saying is dealerships shouldn't make money? Again, for a dealership to take your car in on trade, they're going to have to put it through the shop for inspection, pay to have the car detailed, possibly put a warranty on it, pay advertising, bank loans, overhead, and salesmen. Now, if you would like to go ahead and take care of all those expenses for them, I am sure they would be more than happy to give you what you want for you car. Profit is not a dirty word.
One more thing to consider.......how much mark up is there in a 20 oz soda that you would get from a vending machine? It costs them about 70 cents/bottle to market, transport, and distribute that bottle. Granted, it isn't a large investment, but nontheless, people make money off of anything and everything you buy.......otherwise, they would stop making things for you.
 
yea i know that the dealers always try to get you out of u`r car for the least amount of of their pocket.. i was just surprised that the value dropped 2 grand in like a month.. its just crazy .. i knew it was gonna be tough to get out of the ls but not that tough.. lol.. it still turns heads even when its dirty even though its worth 7 grand.. :shifty:
 
Sell the car yourself, then walk into the dealership with no trade.

Come in on the last day of the month and make a ridiculous offer. They won't take it but they might be willing to take a really short deal, especially on a used car if they need to make their numbers for the month. Not that the end of the month is really that important but sometimes you walk in on the right day and sometimes that happens to be the end of the month when somebody needs to make bonus.
 
yeaa..when i really get serious about gettin rid of it i would definitely sell it myself.. i just wanted to see if it would be possible or how it would work out .. i would definitely sell it come that time .. but i kida decided to keep it and do what i planned to do originally .. which is to try to make it the best lookin ls in panama city.. :cool: try..
 
You are correct.........you will always get a better deal at the end of the month.

Not saying anything but what I said so don't read into it more than what I wrote. I know all about the business dealers have to do, I know more than most salesman, I am just saying it sucks. Yea they should look at the book value but than they need to look at how clean the car is or is not most do but I was just stating what happened at one dealer.

It would be actually much easier for me to trade in though than sell privately just cause most people hate to pay over 15K(mine is worth more) around here or are too lazy to go to a bank and find out about a loan and than the bank would take care of everything.
 
yea i think most of us understand that the dealerships must make money too but it still sucks in some cases.. but i must say that the dealership i went to was kinda good about it because the kbb value for my car was like 7200 and they offered me 8500 :-s. still too much in the hole though. but now i know i gotta either sell it or increase my payments to play catchup.
 
Catching up is very hard unless you can just throw like whatever it is you are missing at it at once and than head right to the dealer.

I love my LS but it depreciates just like my cavaliers and that is horride. Granted the LS is worth more just because it was way more to begin w/ price-wise.

When I traded in my '03 Cavalier coupe, 5-spd, no power windows or locks, sunroof, 17" alloys w/ 14,xxx miles in december of '04 for the LS it was worth like 5k, they gave me a good amount more for it since it looked like it just rolled off the lot the previous day besides one ding. That is how I keep my cars looking, the dealer did not even have to wash or do anything to it besides getting a sticker to put in the window and parking it on the lot.

Eventually my LS is going up for sale, but for now I well enjoy it. I want to do things to it but than again I do not want to spend X amount of $ and have it sold the next day ya know.
 
yea true.. i kinda mean catching up by getting my loan atleast under 10 gran to put it in single digits then sell it if i still want to . but i `m just gonna keep it for now and do what i originally planned to do which is to fix it up .. u know rims tint maybe lower it .. just stuff tha would make me want to keep it or to keep in interested in it. i just still cant believe it dropped 2 grand in a month.. lol.. its all good though i`ll survive.
 
Yea, I have only done the tint and intake system as of now. I do need brakes so I figure I well get the red ones on LSK and eventually the slotted/dimpled rotors aswell cause man the LS definately needs better braking than its stock system. Maybe upgrade the brake lines aswell since even that can make a impressive change by itself. Other than that not sure what else besides exhaust. Besides style changes that is pretty much all you can do to 'em anyway unless you have the money to do an SC and what not.
 
yea.. i dont really wanna go overboard because i`m 21 and the wife might be back in school for a year and i`m lookin at buying a house so i got other more important places to put my money .. its good to think about it though.. but the rims and tint, i`ve been putting them off on my previous cars because of priorities so i`m just ready to get them .. well overdue..

When I ordered my Charger, I asked what they'd give me on trade-in for my LS. They told me $5000 (this is for a 2000 LS V8 last August), so I tried selling it myself.

When my Charger finally came in, I had not sold the Lincoln yet, but all of a sudden they were willing to give me $9300 for it on trade-in, so I gladly traded it. That same morning I saw smoke coming from under the hood (my valve covers had apparently started leaking on the exhaust). With all the problems that car had, I was thrilled with that kind of money.

Perhaps you'll get a better offer when you're ready to buy.
 
haa.. i hear that... that worked out great in u`r case. i`m trying to do stuff to it now to make me really wanna keep it again .. trying to keep it and make it the best lookin one around here hopefully. :)
 
I just found out the LSE package on the 2002 models with the same amount of mileage and same options are 2 grand difference!! :eek: Wow, just for a bodykit and tips.
 
Depreciation can be a good thing. Let the guy who has the 3 year lease take it in the shorts, then you swoop in and buty chaep. Of course if you are the guy selling it is a different problem. Dealers will always lowball the tradein if they can.

I bought my 2004 with 14,000 miles and 1 year on it. I got it for something like $26K if I recall. I think new they were over $40K so I like depreciation.

I know a guy who does this with Ford Clown Vics, they depreciate like a rock so you can get a 2-3 year old car that is an excellent daily driver for cheap. SOme of the imports also drop quickly.

I drive my cars into the ground so depreciation is not an issue other than I let the other guy eat it.

talking about all this depreciation makes me think...what makes the value of the car go down to begin with, also what makes it go up? do you guys ever think it will go up?
 
I dont think the value of any cars made after 1980 (very few special exceptions" will ever go up in value. Buying a new car always means dealing with high depreciation in the first 3 years. Thrifty (or poor like myself) buyers get good used cars with warranty for like 50-60% of the origonal price.
