Have an 88 Lincoln Continental that the radiator fan wont shut off. Anyone else with same/similar situation? Any input would be much appreciated :repost:
No, it stops running. I had pulled the whole fan unit out to check if any type of relay on it. checked all areas of engine compartment to see if there was a fan relay, unplugging everything I could see, to no avail. Yesterday I called a Lincoln dealer to inquire about a fan relay and they said there is not a specific relay for the fan, rather a multi function relay box, which I think is located right above the radiator. It costs like $170. I do not want to spend that much, so have to try something different.
This sounds very simple to me. There's a sensor/switch mounted somewhere where it can touch hot water and activate the fan. Different manufacturers put them in different places. Toyota has one on the bottom of the radiator, but most put them near the thermostat gooseneck.
If you unplug that sensor, and the fan quits... that sensor/switch is stuck.
