Even though it's a gen 2 I have still checked the trunk wires and all is well. After I change the light out it will work for about week then it's out again, any ideas?

Bad or weak ground, possibly a bad sockect. And Rich, it seems like all of the bulbs are cheap these days. Bulbs that are 20 years old last longer than today's cheap bulbs. CHEAP CHINA JUNK.

no kidding. i put a new set of headlights in a car with new bulbs a few years ago. dead bulbs within the month.
pulled the old bulbs out of the original headlights, they are still working!

you could try a different brand of bulbs, moving the bulbs around to different sockets, check the grounds and trace wiring.
try to isolate the issue.

sure the bulbs are burnt out and not coming loose in the socket?
when you change the bulb you are re-seating those bulbs.

idk though, internet diagnosis of electronics isn't easy.

I've had that issue with my 98 in the past. The same bulb would go out within a couple months multiple times. Then, I guess I got a good one. Haven't had to change any bulbs in a few years...
