Well, for the last 6 months or so the voltage regulator on my alternator was not doing it's job correctly. Finally last Tuesday it gave up. Alternator was DONE! I went on ebay & ordered a new "Re-manufactured" alternator. It arrived on Friday. Right on time. Took advantage of the overcast weekend even though I'm beyond sick with cold & fever I uninstalled the old alternator, washed the motor, wrapped that ugly whitish yellowish plastic wire cover that goes across the intake in black electrical tape so it looks much cleaner, installed the alternator, also finally did the spark plug, spark plug wire swap & finally for sh!ts & giggles, painted the alternator bracket in some red engine paint & painted the battery box in some leftover hammered paint I had. I also went to a nearby auto parts store to have the battery charged & checked. Needless to say yesterday afternoon I hit the sack right after doing all of that. Anyway, car fired right up, no more "check charging system" on the message center & the car is ready for my wife to drive.... until...... this afternoon. I start the car & almost immediately I get the "check charging system" on the display. Then the A/C panel starts flickering, a/c goes in & out intermittently. I grab my volt meter & sure enough. It reads 7 volts while the car is running. I check the plug, the ground, everything is fine. The new alternator simply isn't working. BACK TO SQUARE ONE!!!
Any other ideas I should consider? Any fuses I should check? Otherwise I'm about to start disassembling that damn alternator again.

Problem is I need an alternator NOW! My 93 is my wife's daily driver. My wife doesn't know how to take care of these cars & I rather her use my 93 which has NOTHING original & has 106,000 miles than my low mileage, original paint 97. Unlike me, my wife thinks of cars as an object to get you from point A to point B & whatever she drives is dirty & messy inside & out. She doesn't care about it. My 93 has mostly black interior so all it takes is a good vacuum & she's good as new again.
Every other day she uses my 97, there's either a new scratch on it or a new stain inside of it.

Is it from dbelectrical? I have a wai for my 97 except a 130a and it's been fine for over a year.

Sucks though.

Dude, the engine bay looks great.

You just need to do something about that oil filler cap.

I happen to have a brand new in the package Motorcraft cap if you want to replace it...

I've gone thru 3 autozones and now on a oriley 130 amp , so far so good I figure as long as I don't , wot it it will survive . These cars have to use 130 amp alts. If not more

Put the 97s Alt in the 93, wife driving nice car problem solved. Have Alt rebuilt and put on 97

That's the oil cap from my F-150. I took off my oil cap to replace it with an filter type cap over 2 years ago. It ended up destroying my engine bay light on the hood so I wanted to go back to a regular cap, couldn't find it so I just swapped for my F-150. I know it's somewhere in my mess though. Thanks for the offer dude.

I am NOT SURE 100% but we were messing with my alt half of last saturday and my friend, who is a great electrician said that the bracket which you painted red could be a part of grounding. We papersanded it in places where it has contact with engine and alt.

We solved all my problems, i had around 12.0 V, we remade the bad soldering (made by one car shop which replaced my volt. regulator) inside the alt, cleaned everything inside, checked wiring and made it to 13.7. Not perfect but okay for driving at summer. This is because the volt. regulator is not the one that should be there. BTW you can cheat the voltage regulator to make the alt producing more energy by adding a small diode on white wire that goes to fuse box. But this only if need you need to fix it right now and have no choice. Anyway I ordered remanufactured Motorcraft alt just to be safe in future and not to lose time on fixing soon as my Mark is daily.

nope. same plug, flipped around. been using a 2nd gen alt on my car for years.

I have a gen2 alt in my 1993.

A couple years ago I heard otherwise but I hope you are right. I might just switch them this very afternoon.

The bracket isn't painted on the underside. Only the top is painted. Like you I'm not sure either whether or not it's used for ground so just in case, I left it unpainted underneath.

Well theres the 2 huge mounting bolts on the bottom so I doubt that painting the bracket would cause grounding issues.

Just in case, I'm home today because I'm sick so I went outside, took off the bracket, sanded & replaced. Same thing. Car barely starts, runs fine but voltmeter reads 6-7 volts. I refuse to continue running it as it may damage the electrical in the car.

Well, I just got off the phone with the ppl that sold me the alternator. They are sending me a new one overnight. Should be home by tomorrow afternoon. Let's hope this is the solution because I don't want to deal with this BS anymore.

Sometimes alternators that are rebuilt are hit and miss. I have been running on an AutoZone alternator for two years but the first one only lasted about 2 weeks. I found some on ebay that are 220 amp and they say they fit our cars. Mine is fine but thought I might try one of these out. They have a one year exchange on them. Might be the same place you got yours, idk. EDIT: (Just looked and not the same people) Glad to hear they're sending you another one though.

99.7% feedback rating. Must be doing something right and the price looks good to me.

Wish I would've seen those amps when I was searching. They look way better built than the one I just bought. However mine does indeed bring a 1year warranty as well so I will be on their @sses if it stops working.

Definitely plan on doing that as soon as it gets here tomorrow afternoon.
