What's everyone's opinions on almost every car getting ridiculous with power? And what a better time, with about 2.80 a gallon. Any body know of any unsuspecting sleepers? I know an Avalon(I think) makes around 280hp now. Check out the Trailblazer SS and Monte Carlo SS too.

I think the ultimate sleeper right now is the 300C SRT8. That thing is so cheap, and is soooo fast, not much can touch it for the price if anything at all. Plus it's VERY mundane looking. If I could get that kinda performance in my LS, I'd sleep in it.

The Charger SRT-8 is coming in a couple of months. Same powerplant, but even cheaper. $35,995 (before the gas guzzler tax).

Yes, this is definately another muscle car age.

Waaaaaay back when a Dodge Omni was the ultimate sleeper. Little 4 banger turbo. Im going back to like 1985 or so.

Yeah, but the new Charger is in no way a sleeper. In fact, the ones without either of the Hemi's are all bark and no bite in my opinion. Although I think it's ugly, it looks like it's supposed to be fast. The 300 doesn't. Instead of getting the Charger SRT8, you might as well spend a little more money and wait a little longer and get a GT500. That's starting at $39,000 and it will have approx. 475 hp. It will eat Chargers for breakfast like there is no tomorrow. The 300 isn't part of that war. It's at war with the likes of M3/M5, E55, CTS-V, etc.

Speaking of CTS-V. That would be my choice. Not really a sleeper because most know what it is but the same with the an;y of the SRT-8's. At least any one that claims to be a car guy should know what they are. Maybe something like the Honda Accord Hybrid, now that would be a sleeper. Especially with that Hybrid badging on it. Most would think that it is slow because it is a Hybrid but that thing is more powerful than the V-6 Accord. Someone else brought up the new Avalon that would be a good one. Noone would think that thing is fast, and the new ones look good. Just my opinions!!!

why not just spend your money on either the new vette, or better yet wait until the new Z06 comes out, that thing will be a beast!

appx $40,000 for a Shelby or $70,000 for a Z06? It will take guys about 10 minutes and $500 to have the Shelby in the same hp range as the Z06...if not more. Bang for the buck...no comparison. Is the Z06 worth the extra 30k? Not to me. It's a helluva sports car...but if you want a beast for the dollar...it's not even in the same ball park as many others.

C5 6-speed does 12.6, and Z06 does 11.7 in a quarter..... and the shelby & new saleen run about the same numbers a 12.3 (saleen) 12.5 (shelby Gt500)in a quarter. and also i rather have a car that looks like a ferrari ( note i said look ), rather than a car that looks like a 1960's POS! i am not a hater so lets not go there, i am all about american muscle. but you have to look at the truth, it is not about money it is about who will hold it down the 1/4 mile strip!
you are right about the cost involved i am not agruing with you about that, just the numbers that is all..... well except for the looks as well.

Only 450? where did you get this information I have been looking for the horsepower rating on the new cobra but only found "More than 450" on the SVT website

well i have not seen the actual HP rating on the car, i myself has seen the "more than 450 HP" as have everyone else, but how more of 450 can it be? it is not 500 or they would of said it. it is probably around a ball park figure of 460-475 HP. until it is dyno'd lets just leave it as that. that is why i said 450 HP cause i really do not know. as for the saleen it is rated at 400HP!

or instead of having just 8.5 psi of boost in the shelby ill have it upto 12 psi. also take out those 3:31 gears (what were they thinking) and throw in a pair of 4:56's! now we are cooking!!!

To go back to what I was mentioning, The new Monte Carlo SS has a small block 5.3L with around 300 hp, and the Trailblazer SS has the new vette motor, with air induction between the high and low beam. That's pushing 400hp, not bad for an SUV. Also, 80's sleepers, add the Typhoon and the Syclone.

You guys are thinking small potatoes.

How about a nice, healthy Bugatti Veyron (eb4)? :p

I'm going to get one of those when I grow up.

My dream car, Aston Martin V12 Vanquish S. Black, of course. Check out the craftsmanship on those things, it's unreal.

Drove one a couple of years ago while I was doing some work in England and Germany.

All I can say is "Perma Stiffie".

150MPH on the AutoBahn, and I kept looking at the speedo, for the car felt like it was only putzing along at 35. No Windnoise, no road noise (well, VERY LITTTLE), and it tracked like it was glued to the road. Deffinitely a worthy car.

But I still want a Bugatti.

NOOOO you can't get a black Aston!!!! It has to be British Racing Green!!!!!!!! :)

You lucky :q . The fastest car I've driven is a 2001 Cobra. The fastest car I've been in, went 10.03 @ 130ish all motor, now he's getting a nitrous setup, 300 hp or so. 1972 Nova, Dark Candy Apple Red, Minitubbed, caged, Prostar wheels. One hell of a ride.

Dartastic, I remember the Omni's! in 87 I actually owned a Dodge Shadow with the turbo and 5 speed... quite a nice little go getter... and only thing on outside of my car that signified more than a normal 2.2L, was tiny little turbo stickers on the hood bubble!

I wanted to find a GLH about 10 years ago, but couldn't find one reasonably priced that still looked/ran good.

fastest car i ever drove
was my fother 97 Nadcar
he bought it yoused of some reacer for me and my brothers to drive on the track in
love that thing its what i gradutated into when i stoped driving gokarts
man hitting 200 mph was hot

Nah, you're thinking of Jaguars. Astons need to be silver, with 'chineguns behind the grille. :D
